“Bad Bobby” Trent, star high school athlete, college scholarship holder, pro-rodeo circuit rider, lived an unencumbered life. He was a man, who, by his own definition, limited his concentration to no more than eight seconds at a time - the time required to ride a bull or saddlebronc and win. He’s tough, independent, shallow, and always looking for a good time. Then his father is murdered. Sheriff Robert Trent, was the longtime chief law enforcement officer of Lodge Pole County Montana. He was stern, fair, honest, and dependable.

Everything has been leading to this. It's the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, May 23rd, and the small town of Promise Falls, New York, has found itself in the midst of a full-blown catastrophe. Hundreds of people are going to the hospital with similar flu-like symptoms - and dozens have died. Investigators quickly zero in on the water supply. But the question for many, including private investigator Cal Weaver, remains: Who would benefit from a mass poisoning of this town?

What disappointed you about The Twenty-Three?

Too many story lines not necessary for the story with no closure. Author introduced so many characters right off the bat you couldn't keep them straight.

Would you ever listen to anything by Linwood Barclay again?

After this book, no.

What three words best describe Richard Poe and Brian O’Neill ’s voice?

They were good.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I thought the recording malfunctioned the way it ended. I did a rewind and checked the chapters. Nope, author just cut it off.

Any additional comments?

Waist of Audible credit.
