In an abandoned mansion at the heart of Barcelona, a young man, David Martin, makes his living by writing sensationalist novels under a pseudonym. The survivor of a troubled childhood, he has taken refuge in the world of books and spends his nights spinning baroque tales about the city's underworld. But perhaps his dark imaginings are not as strange as they seem, for in a locked room deep within the house lie photographs and letters hinting at the mysterious death of the previous owner.

Since time immemorial the Spires have sheltered humanity, towering for miles over the mist-shrouded surface of the world. Within their halls aristocratic houses have ruled for generations, developing scientific marvels, fostering trade alliances, and building fleets of airships to keep the peace. Captain Grimm commands the merchant ship Predator. Fiercely loyal to Spire Albion, he has taken their side in the cold war with Spire Aurora, disrupting the enemy's shipping lines by attacking their cargo vessels.

What disappointed you about The Aeronaut's Windlass?

This was the worst book I have ever read! I was confused , lost, and never connected to any character in the book.

What was most disappointing about Jim Butcher’s story?

He doesn't make it easy to get into it! Poor character development. Plot holes, and irregular time lapse events! I had to listen three times to try and understand what was going on.what a relief I managed to get to the disappointing end!

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Performance was lukewarm. It did help a bit to keep the reader enthralled, but due to the poor story lines I lost interest.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Sci FYI sometimes goes through this way and that. Like riding bronco! The only redeeming quality was my persistence to conquer this horrible story and get to the end.

Any additional comments?

I wouldn't place this author on the best seller on the best seller list

Being sent away to foster did nothing to cure her of her unending love for Maddoc, a sentiment he did not return. Years later, Adalind returns from fostering as a cultured and beautiful woman. So beautiful, in fact, that tales of her beauty are legendary and a string of hopeful suitors follow her home. Maddoc, now faced with this exquisite and refined creature, is tasked, as the captain of the army, with chasing the suitors away.

Like fed the story, didn't particularly like the poetry. A bit over done. The pulsating adventures of rivalry were very exciting. The beginning was a slow start and a bit annoying, but it finally took off in chapter 9. Again LeVeque has the talent to twist and twirl a good story. I enjoy her genius!

Magnifying this fear is the man they call The Lord of the Shadows - a terrifying figure who sits at the right hand of the King, manipulating the royal moves like a puppet master. The Lord of the Shadows has been known to tear men apart with his bare hands and can, with a snap of his fingers, alter the future of anyone he chooses.
