This book was a great overview of the teachings of His Holiness. The narrator helped explain the Dali Lama's background, history, teachings, etc in a manner that was very accessible.

When Autobiography of a Yogi first appeared in 1946, it was acclaimed as a landmark work in its field. The New York Times hailed it as "a rare account". Newsweek pronounced it "fascinating". The San Francisco Chronicle declared, "Yogananda presents a convincing case for yoga, and those who 'came to scoff' may remain 'to pray." The story of the life of Paramahansa Yongananda is truly an incredible one. It creates a vivid picture of not only Indian culture and customs, but the basic tenets of Hinduism and yogic history. This is a must-read for anyone interested in learning the history of some of the world's greatest teachers, and draws strong connections between the lives of the many saints and gurus who have influenced modern spirituality.

My two girls enjoyed this audiobook very much. The stories are filled with vivid descriptions and subtle moral lessons. I am sure we will return to Josefina again and again as they grow older. This was our first experience with the American Girl collection, and we will certainly return for more!
