Svali: Living on the dark mining planet of Kleedan, I saw only a bleak future. I sold my body to the men of Avalere, but it wasn't enough. I needed to do more. Desperate, willing to sacrifice anything to feed my mother and sister, I pretended to be one of the pure women of The Circle trained to be mated to the warriors. In so doing, I tricked the formidable Duke into marrying me. He must never learn of my deception, or my family and I are doomed.

Idan by Jane Henry is the second in the Heroes of Avalere series. The first book, Aldric, was fantastic. I loved the story but the performance by Jeffrey and Ali Peterson made the experience totally immersive. Idan is also performed by Jeffrey and Ali Peterson and is completely engrossing. They bring beautiful passages to life and entwine the characters of Idan and Svali seamlessly.
Alternating chapters are told from Idan’s and Svali’s points of view and narrated by Jeffrey and Ali respectively. This allows us to see the motivations, desires and fears of each character. Svali is a lady of the evening. Idan is a warrior. King Aldric orders Idan to take a wife so he can be named Duke. Ever practical and pragmatic, Idan agrees, assuming that his marriage will be a business arrangement devoid of emotional contact. Instead, he forges a connection to Svali who uses deception to be chosen as Idan’s bride. Svali also plans the marriage to be an impersonal arrangement. She wants to protect and provide for her family and sees Idan as the means to an end. In training Svali to obey, Idan falls in love with her and Svali learns to trust Idan enough to submit to him.
This is a beautiful love story. Sure there’s plenty of deception and intrigue and even a budding rebellion. But the sex scenes are smoking hot and the spanking scenes are detailed and erotic. The deep, expressive voice of Jeffrey Peterson making demands and threats is toe-curling. The stomach flutters, the breath hitches, and the lower regions get tingly every time he disciplines his wife and especially when he claims her. However, an actor is only as good as the material he/she must present. Ms. Henry has the ability to create a fantasy world that is both realistic and foreign. The characters are interesting and the plot is fast paced and thrilling. I have no negatives to mention. The meld of story and performance is exactly what one seeks in an audiobook; pure escapism.

Aldric: A Sci-Fi Romance by Jane Henry is the first book in the Heroes of Avalere series. Although I've read books by Jane Henry, I have not read any of the Heroes of Avalere books. However, if the rest of the books are like this one, I may need to read more.
R-482 is a spy sent to Avalere from a rival planet. She is caught by Aldric, the warrior king, who decides to punish the spy himself and keep her for his own. He begins by spanking her in public and takes her to his quarters to begin her training. The story unfolds as R-482 begins to embrace the humanity that her planet had tried to eliminate. Aldric names her Carina and teaches her the beauty and joy of her body and "coupling". Because she is also headstrong, he has to teach her to obey him. He does that by punishing her when she disobeys. They have to work together to save Aldric's sister but take time to fall in love.
This audiobook is narrated by both Jeffrey D. Peterson and Ali Peterson. Mr. Peterson voices Aldric and the other male characters. Ms. Peterson voices Carina and the other female characters. This is the first audiobook I've listened to with two narrators and in this case it worked wonderfully well! Ms. Peterson gives Carina a childlike innocence in some things, but never forgets she is a spy sent to learn the secrets of Avalere. Mr. Peterson gives Aldric a growling, commanding tone. In all honesty, hearing Mr. Peterson (as Aldric, of course) growl, "You will obey me, Little One." as he threatens to spank Carina is seriously, seriously, seriously hot. It kicks up the butterflies and ignites the lady bits all at the same time. It's well done, well acted, and totally engrossing. While the ending of the story is a little too predictable, the overall plot is good. The descriptions of the planets and explanations of the differences between them is fascinating. The punishment and coupling scenes are very descriptive and arousing.
Overall, I highly recommend Aldric: A Sci-Fi Romance, especially the audiobook.

Listening to a book is different from reading it yourself. You create voices in your head to define the characters. Well, at least I do. Listening to an audiobook locks you into the narrator's idea (and execution) of the characters. You're also locked into his/her reading style. I heard Ken Solin narrate His Lady: Boston Doms Book 5 and thought his rough style fit the setting of the book. I wasn't quite as comfortable with his narration on this one. It's not that he was bad; I just expected more emotion and more depth.
The story itself is great. I loved the characters of Nettie and Trapper Jack. At first I admit I had some questions about Trapper Jack's views on women and what women can and can't do. Then I remembered: this is the old west. And his views were dead on for the time period. He was rational and practical and unemotional in trying to convince Nettie that she couldn't live alone in the wilderness. Of course, Nettie was pretty ditzy, too. She had no clue on how to survive on her own but refused to understand her ignorance would be deadly. As the story develops, the troubled histories of Trapper Jack and Nettie explain much of their temperment and views of marriage and dependence.
The emotional connection between Trapper Jack and Nettie is not insta-love or even insta-lust. Instead, it builds over the course of the book as each person's insecurities are revealed and dealt with. The final chapter is the culmination of the journey they began with a theft and a spanking.
Speaking of spankings, there are multiple scenes of spanking or domestic discipline as well as steamy sex scenes. Both types of scenes are well done, descriptive and explicit. If that's not your thing, you might want to skip this book. But if you enjoy your historical stories with sex and a dose of discipline, this is an excellent place to start.

Elena Slater grew up on the streets of New York City as the baby sister of Alexander 'Slay' Slater. She knows how to hold her own, and she's anything but submissive. Sure, all her closest friends are members of The Club, Boston's most well-respected BDSM playground, and she can't help but see the appeal of power exchange, especially when it comes to the sexy, ultra-dominant, and much older Blake Coleman. But that could never be more than a fantasy for a girl like her, could it?

Ken Solin narrates His Lady: Boston Doms, Book 5 in a growly, harsh rasp. But that is exactly what this book requires. First of all, it's set in Boston. You can't do a Boston accent gently. It's hard and rough, just like the streets. Secondly, this book is full of profanity. You can't convey the power of a good four-letter word without giving it a hard edge. Plus, he masters the implied threat of painful consequence needed for demonstrating the power of a Dominant. The best narrators give you a window into the book and you can find yourself inside it. I unashamedly admit I felt that stomach dropping, butterfly inducing, oh-my-god thrill when Blake announced his intentions to spank Elena and called her "young lady." That's the hallmark of losing yourself in a good story: you feel what the characters feel. And boy, did I feel it!
Even the best narrator is only as good as the story and this story is excellent. The book starts with a literal bang. Nitty, gritty, dirty action right at the beginning. As the story of Elena and Blake unfolds, the sex gets hotter because the discipline gets added into the mix. Elena is no quiet, shrinking violet. She is a fierce warrior, fighting for herself and her man even when she shouldn't. Blake is a Dominant whose submissive wife died. Elena is everything Josie wasn't and it takes a while before Blake decides Elena really wants to be his submissive.
There's more to the story than just sex and domination, of course. An actual plot unfolds and it's thrilling to follow the fight to save The Club. There's a lot of social commentary on both the BDSM lifestyle and the perceived prejudice that often follows it. I was quite impressed with the explanations and justifications given for an alternative lifestyle featuring what most consider "kink". There are also descriptions of women's health clinics and the counseling services they offer. Best of all, there is the recurring message that submissives are not abused victims, but empowered women embracing their own sexual needs.
It's hard to create a book that is equal parts sexy, thought-provoking, kink-friendly, and empowering, but Jane Henry and Maisy Archer make it look easy. I highly recommend His Lady: Boston Doms, Book 5 for the quality of the story and the talent of the narrator.

His Human Rebel is the 4th book in the Zandian Masters series by Renee Rose. To truly appreciate how the entire story flows, I advise starting with book one and working your way up. The reason the Zandians need human mates and how they came to be in the pods is explained in the earlier books. However, the story of Cambry and Lundric can be considered complete in this book.
Cambry was a prisoner on the death pod that crash landed. The Zandians take over the pods and give the prisoners a chance to fight with the Zandians to recover their home world. In return, they would be free. Lundric is one of the Zandian captains who try to train the former prisoners to become warriors. Lundric wants to claim Cambry as his mate as soon as he sees her. But she is fierce and independent and refuses to yield easily to him. She wants to find her brother and sees Lundric's pilot training as a way to escape. Slowly she begins to respond to Lundric's dominant ways. Love grows between them and survives despite her ill-advised escapades.
I loved the deep growly voice Jiraiya Addams used to give life to Lundric and the other Zandians. He added just a touch of an accent to make them seem truly alien. He also did a great job of voicing the female characters. While their speaking voices were higher pitched, they weren't a shrill falsetto. Each character had a distinct sound so they could be recognized easily. The only fault I could find was probably with the editing. There were several places where I could hear a distinct change in the pitch or cadence or timber of a word in a sentence. It sounded like when one word is dubbed over another in a movie. You can hear that something sounds "off", but it happened infrequently and didn't distract from the story.
The characters in the book are well-developed and the plot is solid. The actions and reactions of Cambry and Lundric are true to their characterizations. There are scenes of explicit sex, domestic discipline, and a Dominant/submissive relationship. In other words, it is HOT. Jiraiya Addams uses that raspy commanding voice to make the explicit scenes intense and panty-melting. His verbal interpretation takes an already excellent story to another very enjoyable level. I highly recommend the Audible book of His Human Rebel by Renee Rose.

I love Lee Savino's Berserker books. I've read them all and love them. They're ridiculously sexy with strong vivid characters who come alive in the hands of a master author. But when you add narration by a smokey Scottish accent, you have panty melting heat!
Robert Ross has a gloriously smooth burr that breathes life into the Berserker characters. Especially during the menage scenes. (The phrase "talk dirty to me" is apt.) The only problem I have with his performance is that it is sometimes hard to tell which Berserker is talking. I'd like a little more difference and definition in the character's voices. However, he still manages to bring all the emotions of the characters into play. You can feel Sabine's pain, especially during the final scenes.
I'll be the first to admit that you really need to read (or listen to) the books in order. This is not the first book in the series and if you jump into this one before the others, you may be a little lost. Brenna's story comes first, and if Robert Ross also narrates it, you really, really want to listen to it. But this story is the one I'm reviewing. The sex is hot, the story is gripping and intriguing, and it's so very well written and well narrated.

This is the story of James, a Dominant, and several of his submissives. Rob manages to master both James's steely determination and warm nurturing affection when dealing with his subs. Make no mistake: this book features discipline, bondage, vulgar language and hotter than hell sex. However, these individual stories are ROMANCES and the true emotional connections between James and his submissives are at the crux of each relationship. It's a wonderful ride that I strongly recommend to everyone who enjoys dominance erotica.

I was given a free audiobook of "Tucker's Justice" in exchange for an honest review. It took me a while to get into this story despite the spanking near the beginning. I was expecting something more on the lines of "His Willful Bride", but what I got was more a guy-cleans-up-western-town story. If you're getting this for the sex, there's quite literally one consummated sex scene at the very end. There are a few spankings and a few masturbation scenes interspersed with a pretty good story if you're into westerns. The one thing that just kept bugging the crap out of me was the "voice" the narrator chose for Dolly. I do realize that it's hard for a male to mimic a female voice without sounding silly, but his breathy and whiny intonation was distracting. Overall, I'm glad I stuck with the story because it did get more exciting as it went on. Strangely enough though, I think I'd like it more if I had read it rather than listened to it.
