This is a review of the Audible narration only. The narrator's characters sound, especially Melisande, like she has a speech impediment, like a 'valley girl, mixed with a New Yorker of about 9 yrs. old that's trying to be English...it is just painful.

Unfortunately the narrator has no talent for character development. Our lead female, Florence Capria, is Italian yet only when she says an Italian word/phrase does she sound somewhat Italian. I would not recommend buying this performance as she did not bring the story to life. I do want to thank our author for including Audible narration with her books as my eyes do not allow me to read for more than a couple of minutes.

I did not enjoy this narration only because of her "mouth noises". I wondered if she narrated without a filter. Often she said a long sentence with one breath so it became a little mumble near the endangered. otherwise she is a fairly good actress. She uses good ineffective techniques for male voices (instead of trying to force a lower tone). She was very good at making each character unique.

I compared Hollis McCarthy's performance to bk#1 to make sure it was the same. Her delivery was like chalk down a board. I don't know what type of person she was trying to emulate, mayhap an actress of the 40's/50's, but this is a 19yo girl in London (not NYC). There were times she sounded like she used helium. She was ok in bk#1 but I gave up on this series after this book. I would not recommend buying this volume.

With a name like Griffin Steele you would expect a very sexy voice to go with it. Velda Dehmlow makes the main character sound like a 70yo man that has smoked for over 50yrs. This is a series about 4 men, it should be narrated by a man/men. As an author I would not have a woman, esp. one not talented enough in voice characters, ruin my fantastic story.

This is one of my favourite books...CAM ROHAN...need I say more!?! Considered one of the sexiest, compelling and memorable leading men/Hero of the Historical Romance world. This sets the stage for the loveable Hathaway family. Five orphans 13-25 who are determined to stay together. They also have a ROM gypsy that father saved as a young boy, from a gypsy round-up (to get them off the English lords land) Merripen remains to care for them. I read/listen to this series often. it's heartwarming and comical. You will love it...guaranteed!

How perfect to have male and female narrators. There are none better than the uber-talented Tim Campbell. The character vocalizations and personalities make for a very enjoyable story as only Susanna Kearsley writes. This is an audio book you will listen to time and again. Book review on Amazon site.

An anticlimatic ending to this series, after enjoying Roslyn Landor narrating the previous volumes. Justine has always sounded like she just woke up. She ends her words nasally, for lack of better term. This is the last book narrated by Justine that I will use.

I have a hard time listening to Carmen Rose, and I believe that this is just me. There is a texture to her voice that is nasally (like she has a cold) and she does not use her voice to play the characters. She goes from little girl to monotone.

I have been hard on some narratives because a woman with a teen's voice trying to be the big, handsome, sexy lord just doesn't stay in character...it ruins the scene. BUT Leslie Bellair was able to pull it off. Her voice/character variations let us know who was speaking.
(*NOTE: the fabulous Roslyn Landor narrates books #2&3)
