I am a frequent listener to audio books, but I rarely come across one that is truly addictive. This is one of those books. The main character is unusual, and yet perfectly believable, as are the plot developments— at times intricate but never confusing. The placement of historical figures in contexts that seem natural and move the plot along is an additional attraction.

The narrator is perfect — not distracting or intrusive; ideal.

I admit that I expected to enjoy this audiobook before I even started it. It did not disappoint me, continuing the story arc of two of my favorite characters, pursuing complicated interwoven plots and subplots, all with a bit of tongue in cheek humor here and there. Super narrator.

Jack Reacher is at the top of his game in this fast-moving, timely story featuring the opioid crisis and combat survivors. This is an audiobook that was great from beginning to end, story, performance, and all.

The plot had a few slow bits, but overall it was a fun ride from the beginning to the satisfying and not exactly unpredictable end.

This very literary historical romance novel, set for the most part in 18th-century Italy, is beautifully presented by the Audible narrator. With a strong plot and fascinating setting, the novel certainly held my interest. The characters, even the three main ones, are sketched in with broad strokes rather than finely detailed, but that's generally enough.

If you could sum up Rose Gold: An Easy Rawlins Mystery in three words, what would they be?

Great plot, compelling characters including the always fascinating protagonist.

Who was your favorite character and why?

It's hard not to choose Easy. However, the appearances of his adopted children are a treat, particularly Feather, who is developing into an important character in her own right.

Any additional comments?

If you are a Mosley fan, read it. If you are new to this wonderful author, start with the first in the series.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Some of the time was well-spent, I suppose, but the book seemed far too long -- padded out with details that were unnecessary to the plot and in some instances irrelevant.

Would you ever listen to anything by Pin Ho and Wenguang Huang again?

Maybe.

What three words best describe James Chen’s voice?

Neutral, well-paced.

Do you think A Death in the Lucky Holiday Hotel needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No. Nothing sufficiently incomplete or interesting to warrant follow-up.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. The story is interesting, involves the scion of a rich and famous family, and illustrates the folly of combining wealth and arrogance, even for the food intentions.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Savage Harvest?

Can't really say without spoiling the plot -- but it's the revelation of what probably happened to the main character.

What about Joe Barrett’s performance did you like?

Excellent pacing and voice, did not distract from the content.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Sometimes the assumptions one makes about "primitive" people may prove fatal.

What did you love best about Blood Will Out?

Didn't really love it, but I was fascinated by the gullibility of the narrator/author, the evilness of the main character, and the overall bizarreness of the events that the book recounts.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Most interesting was how thoroughly and devastatingly the villain of the book conned just about everyone.

Which scene was your favorite?

I didn't really like any of the parts involving the poor dog.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Revelation of how an innocent person was taken advantage of and murdered.

Any additional comments?

Just bizarre.

What other book might you compare The Wise Man's Fear to and why?

The Name of the Wind, of course -- the first book in the series.

Which character – as performed by Nick Podehl – was your favorite?

Kvoth I guess.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No.

Any additional comments?

The book and the series live up to the already-established reputation as one of the great fantasy series.
