Elfrida Phipps, once of London's stage, moved to the English village of Dibton in hopes of making a new life for herself. Gradually she settled into the comfortable familiarity of village life - shopkeepers knowing her tastes, neighbors calling her by name - still she finds herself lonely.

This book was recommended and I'm so glad I listened. I found this lovely story with beautiful, sensitive and very human characters an absolute delight. I laughed out loud, cried with uncontrolled tears and loved every word of this beautiful story. Jilly Bond's narrative brought each scene to life and when the last chapter was read I felt sorry to see the story end but so very grateful to have been invited into this world.
One of my favorite books, Will reread again and a recommendation to all...a must read.
