Alexander Weiss inadvertently insults Athena, goddess of wisdom, and she casts him away on a forgotten isle filled with statues. Being marooned is bad enough, but the fact that the island is also the home of Euryale, elder sister to Medusa, makes the situation a touch worse. The only thing keeping Alex from being petrified is the fact that Euryale has taken a liking to the blundering mortal. For now.

I'm not really a fan of Alex but one thing this book does really well is nail down just how Petty and ridiculous the Greek pantheon can be. I do however feel that I was slightly misled. I was expecting some classic Epic Fantasy with a modern twist an adventure and what I got is a rom-com. a fairly mediocre but funny rom-com.

so there is alot to be said for good character work. this book as alot in concept similar to the tome of bill. but where I hated bill but loved the story here I have the opposite issue I love Fred and hate the lack of plot. his is a simple imperfect creature of the night who while having a strong aversion to violence and confrontation is still heroic ans proactive. he often does just the best he can and it's great. he deserves a better first outing but I'm excited for the next installment.

this was a solid sequel it did a lot of what I like in the first one but Crank It Up to 11 I was a little sad to see the characters from the first book leave but his new team is extremely interesting I love all of them they're all pack of weirdos and it's fantastic also it's refreshing that the main character while imperfect and flawed isn't universally loved by everyone. there's the harem which is shocking but also really quite refreshing and so far there hasn't even been a hint at a love interest. I cannot recommend this book enough it is so entertaining and so funny and genuinely refreshing

The decision to start a new life is never an easy one, but for Joe the transition was far from figurative. Becoming a permanent addition to a game world, it doesn't take long to learn that people with his abilities are actively hunted. In fact, if the wrong people gained knowledge of what he was capable of, assassins would appear in droves.

by now I've gotten accustomed to certain things from this particular genre however this book was a pleasant and complete surprise all of the characters were fun and interesting our protagonist was not a dumb weenie but a genuinely nice imperfect human who was not so insanely overpowered that there wasn't any real tension surrounding whether or not he'd succeed yes there are a few things that you see coming a mile away but you see them coming because it makes sense within the concept of the story it's not shark jumping it's not out of left field it's not deus ex machina it's chekhov's gun it's set up ahead of time and chapter 1 and then somebody get shot in chapter 10 it's so refreshing to have such a well-written bit of game lit or RPG lit. I cannot recommend this book to people enough it is extremely good

this book features a fun concept and a really interesting world the ladies are fantastic and really cool characters however are protagonist is just the worst I mean it's like a Trope where the protagonist always has to be a whiny kid with no self-esteem but he's supposed to be in his mid-twenties. if you can get past the oh I'm not good enough for this low self-esteem self-hating bull then you'll like it if you can't do that like me you'll get frustrated and dump this book and series.

Ryker only has one goal in his life right now: Turn a certain adventuring guild into a flaming wreck while dancing merrily through the smoldering ruins. All for the chance to get back at a handful of people. It isn’t as if they didn’t deserve it either. They had driven him from his home. Chased him physically from the very guild house itself.  Simply because he wasn’t as strong as they expected him to be. As strong as he’d expected himself to be. He’d returned the next day and left with something he’d hidden away and told no one about when he found it in one of his few Dungeon Dives.
