When Detective Douglas Jones' son goes missing under strange circumstances, everyone assumes he ran away. The first break in the case comes when a long-lost relative shows up with a new name and a strange tattoo on the palm of his left hand. His name is Tallow Jones. He is a private detective... and a wizard. A wizard is needed too, because in Atlanta, strange abductions are just the tip of the iceberg.

A wonderful side addition to the bowl of souls series. I would suggest it to anyone who likes the bowl of souls.

For time out of mind, bloodthirsty demons have stalked the night, culling the human race to scattered remnants dependent on half-forgotten magics to protect them. Then two heroes arose - men as close as brothers, yet divided by bitter betrayal. Arlen Bales became known as the Warded Man, tattooed head to toe with powerful magic symbols that enable him to fight demons in hand-to-hand combat-and emerge victorious.

This is a great series! I love it right along Chaos seeds and the way of the shaman. I quickly listened to both and now the hard part waiting for the next one. Slip and Slide of Doom for the win.

There are things in this world that men and women aren't meant to understand. We aren't supposed to know these things exist, much less how to fight them. The things that go bump in the night, the monsters in the closet, the shadow out of the corner of your eye - that's where I live.

I love stories with demons and other fictional beings but this story was just annoying. I don't care for books that pushes the religious angle so much by pretending it is reasonable with crappy logic and adding in a fictional part to pass it off. Religion is nonsense. If you want to write a story about demons go for it but keep the authors religious identity out of it.

What was most disappointing about David Simpson’s story?

I had a really hard time liking the main protagonist Craig. The character was disappointing in the amount I listened too. Perhaps he would improve during the series but I can't stand to listen to him any more and returned the audiobook. I only got to the 9/11 part but he was so annoying I quit and returned it.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Frustration at the protagonist Craig.
