I appreciated the twists in this dark story. It plays on current fears and gets started off quickly. It’s not for the everyone, as it’s not a warm and fuzzy romance with perfect characters overcoming a single obstacle. It does have some violence and sexual violence so the faint of heart our people who are sensitive to these topics should skip this one. It does have flawed characters, which made it more believable to me. It’s a well-crafted story. The narration was beautifully done without any distractions for me.

For Kate Mitchell, finishing her master's thesis on reclusive photographer Reed O'Connor was just another item to check off her list. She knew exactly what she was doing. Or did she? There's just one portrait that doesn't fit. One portrait... and the passion she sees behind it. Finding the story behind O'Connor's picture becomes Kate's obsession, and the people she meets will challenge everything she thought she knew about life, love, and inspiration. A single picture can tell more than one story.

I liked reading about all of the creative, gifted characters. Some of the other reviewers complain that this work is too different than her Elemental Mysteries. I think it's unfair to expect a book about artists to be as action-packed as one about vampires. It stands alone, as I think every good book should. It was beautifully written and I really enjoyed listening to this piece.

Defiant Highland beauty Fiona Sinclair is shocked by her brothers’ treachery. To seal a fragile truce, they have traded her hand in marriage to their sworn enemy, a man she has never met, a man she was raised to despise. With no choice but to wed, Fiona makes her own private vow: Though she may sacrifice her freedom, she will never surrender her heart. Commanded into marriage by the king, Myles Campbell is no more willing than his reluctant bride. Still, she is a rare beauty, passionate enough to warm even the coldest marriage bed.

This is a story of adventure and romance. At times it was a bit predictable, but I'm okay with that. I would recommend it to someone who is looking for a light, summer story.

While this novel is a bit heavier than the typical romance novel, I appreciated the depth and the character development. I liked the narrator's voice.
