An incompetent wizard turned my girlfriend into a frog, and that’s just the beginning. The name’s Jack, and I hunt monsters for a living. I’ve been doing this for a while, but my associate is new. Dormuris is an elf I rescued from a troll, and he's a wizard. Sort of. He’s not the best with magic, and he accidentally turned my girlfriend into a frog. In order to reverse the spell, we have to seek out a real wizard.

While I don't mind there being some telling, none of the story is showing and even after the entire thing I have no idea what the main character looks like or really an idea of what most things looked like. That said, the story itself was intriguing and the characters were decently fleshed out, its just the way that the story was told that left something to be desired.

But she aspires to much more: Lila wants the Raiders to become Dragon Mercenaries, dragon riders who help protect merchant fleets and navies from attack. Her father Kasian is skeptical, but a young monk named Danu - with a quest of his own - comes bearing a prophecy claiming that Lila is the lost heir of Roskilde, a born dragon rider.

Dragon Raider was a good story with an interesting character that didn't always get what she wanted. I especially love a particular dragon...

The main thing I fault this audiobook for is the narrators editing abilities. There are some words that have obviously been sliced in to correct something and the cut has a completely different tone and pitch witch catches you off guard. If you can look past the fact that this was likely made by a newer narrator, then this is definitely worth a listen.

While I do enjoy sci-fi from time to time, fantasy is where my heart lies and this captured both aspects spectacularly. The characters are interesting and relatable and their experiences in this digital world are real and tangible. That said, the reason I have give the audiobook a 4 star when it comes to story is because the end of the second book left me a bit confused due to some of the interactions between characters.
Overall, it was an excellent listen and I look forward to hearing more!

This story is full of unexpected turns that will keep you enthralled. My only criticism is that the author writes too detailed yet not unique enough descriptions of the characters. Every time one of these descriptions came up I found myself no longer paying attention to the story and had to work to get a feel for the character. One or two short key points about a character would likely serve well, or at least make the description have more emotional weight with the person who point of view the story is in at the time.

I don't generally devour a 12 hour audiobook in just over a day, but when the story is this good, sometimes you just can't help yourself.

The only warning I bare is that this story if full of manipulative relationships, so if that is something you cannot stand, then you should perhaps look somewhere else.

While the narrator shows promise, the sudden change of voice used when a character says a spell is jarring and led to my lower rating. The story isn't bad, though it lacks description and the way it is narrated leaves it feeling stilted. The characters and story is intriguing, but I just couldn't get into this story.

The Battle Mage had some twists that surprised me, making the overall plot enjoyable yet left me still wanting for more. Though things are nicely wrapped up at the end, it is the extra little bit after the last chapter that did me in... While this added piece answers a question that was left lingering, it also opened many more.

I'm a fantasy fanatic (even write some myself) and I absolutely love how the powers are structured. I will say that the character building of some secondary characters leaves something to be desired as they seem a bit flat, but overall, the story has met my satisfaction.
