Plum Kettle does her best not to be noticed because when you're fat, to be noticed is to be judged. She is biding her time at a job answering fan mail for a popular teen girls' magazine until she can afford weight-loss surgery. But lately she is being followed by a girl in outlandish clothes and combat boots.

While I absolutely empathize with the apparent emotions and facts behind this book, the explicit descriptions of horrible acts seemed at cross-purposes to the narrative. Porn is disgusting at its core. Describing it in such detail is salacious and equally disgusting. I did not enjoy this book and only finished it to be able to support discussion at book club with experience. I’m sure man haters will dig it. Is it significant that the author’s name means “barren”? Written by a mature female with plenty of “in kind” experience.

My book club read this book, recently. Of the eight women who read it zero liked it. Unfortunately for us, I guess, we all prefer a book with some character for whom we have affinity. The main character in this book was someone we all thought should be slapped. The writing was well done but we just couldn't appreciate This self absorbed young man.
