Aware provides practical instruction for mastering the Wheel of Awareness, a life-changing tool for cultivating more focus, presence, and peace in one's life. An in-depth look at the science that underlies meditation's effectiveness, this audiobook teaches listeners how to harness the power of the principle "Where attention goes, neural firing flows, and neural connection grows". Siegel reveals how developing a Wheel of Awareness practice to focus attention, open awareness, and cultivate kind intention can help you grow a healthier brain and reduce fear and anxiety in your life.

I loved this book. It's heavy on brain anatomy and explaining why each section of this particular meditation - and those like it by extension - work to create different neutral pathways leading to behavioral change.

That being said, this is in no context a "spiritual" book, although a prospective reader may initially make that conclusion from the cover. Read this if you like to know the reasoning behind scientific findings, particularly if you're interested in the mental & physical benefits of meditation.

Bonus: The author quotes "The Telomere Effect" several times when discussing research about the relationship of longevity and meditation.

Dr. Jinpa has so much life experience, not to mention formal and professional training, to give authority to his bold claims, and backs up his words with other expert opinions and studies. Give it a try; it's a short read with tremendous impact.

Tiffany can't avoid being funny: it's just who she is. But The Last Black Unicorn is so much more than a side-splittingly hilarious collection of essays - it's a memoir of the struggles of one woman who came from nothing and nowhere. A woman who was able to achieve her dreams by reveling in her pain and awkwardness, showing the world who she really is, and inspiring others through the power of laughter.

Tiffany Haddish is brutally honest, and wicked funny, but her story is heartbreaking. I loved the narration, the organization is novel (the story is told in order of character impact, not chronologically). This book is not for the vicariously traumatized; there are trigger warnings. If you are willing to laugh through the pain to the storybook ending, this book can be entertaining and healing.
