Join the Army and See the Universe. That is the motto of The Third Space War, also known as The First Interstellar War, but most commonly as The Bug War. In one of Robert Heinlein's most controversial best sellers, a recruit of the future goes through the toughest boot camp in the universe - and into battle with the Terrain Mobile Infantry against mankind's most alarming enemy.

Very obvious edits with completely different sound quality from the surrounding sections. A few editing errors with repeated or garbled words. The story itself is fantastic, of course, being one on Heinlein's best.

Mars is a colonial world governed by corporate interests on Earth. The citizens of Mars are hardworking, brave, and intelligent, but held back by their lack of access to the best education, and the desire of Earthly powers to keep the best inventions for themselves. The young Martians - the second and third generation born on Mars - have little loyalty to Earth and a strong belief that their planet can be independent.

Parts of this book are hard to follow due to poor audio quality and very noticeable digital artifacts in the audio stream. Come on, Audible! You can do better than this!

It sounds like this recording was digitized from a cassette tape using a player that badly needed it's playback head to be cleaned and aligned. After the first half or so of the recording, the sound quality improves. I guess they noticed. Too bad they didn't go back and re-digitize the first half of the performance.

The book itself is still amazingly interesting and fresh even though it was written way back in the mid 1980s. I'm glad I stuck with it even though I had a hard time ignoring the audio problems at first.
