1231 A.D. After a nasty skirmish along the England/Scotland border at Bog Wood, a badly wounded knight has crawled off to die. As women from the Clan Scott fan out across the battlefield to collect the spoils of war, one woman breaks off from the pack. She is sickened by the tradition of stealing valuables off the dead and runs off to hide. In her hiding place, however, lingers the badly wounded knight. The young woman is frightened at first but her natural instinct to lend aid takes over. She tends the knight and saves his life.

The book was hard to listen to. Narrator was monotone, but could just be story, it seemed like he didn't like the book either. Main female character is awful. She is a whiner, selfish, boring, and a mean girl. The author does make fun of heavy set people, barren people and one that had a miscarriage. The author starts at least 3 othet stories of secondary characters who are in love with the main character, Jordon, then settle for her cousins, or other knights but then stops, like they no longer are apart of the book. Why put them in...just to try to make the main characters more likable? Didn't work, but it did make you still listens to fine out about them, but it never comes. What comes is I just listened to 37 hours of drool, just to fine out it is a DREAM. Had a huge Dallas moment. DO NOT WASTE MONEY....free and want to sleep maybe.

the description says nothing about other books, but this is like book 9. Very confusing if you haven't read previous books. Not a stand alone. Everytime I think I know who/what everyone is, the author adds chapters that deal with other people who we don't know anything about and doesn't pertain with story. Jumps around and doesn't tell you were your at, have to figure it out. Characters sound kinda interesting, but not enough to buy the other books.

i loved the 1st and 2nd books. this one was ok. felt like a filler. main female character had a couple of one liners, but over all the characters were flat. Thought Giovanni would have a better story, the other books made him seem like an interesting person, but he had no depth. the reader was great as always, but not even he could make it more than ok.

Lyon is way overbearing, sexist, and not a partner. She is way submissive. he says do something and she does it, if she shows any back bone he pushes her back down. Started off strong female leads then declined to whimps. When the female character talks she is whispering, and the performer whispers, making it hard to understand what she is saying. The main female character has no self esteem, she needs him to tell her everything, she turns her back on her culture and everything she knows to be with him. He gives up nothing, not even a first name, she calls him by his title. Couple of funny parts, i really wanted to like this book more.
