Bad "big picture" plot structure. Bad-guy plan succeeds through sheer luck, rather than any intelligence on their part. Makes for lower stakes for protagonist. Good reader, though not quite as good as the reader for book 1.

i can see why my kids are loving the series. a bit "juvenile" for my tastes, but still a lot of fun. good message about the magic of creativity. narrator is excellent.

If the entire series hadn't already been paid for, I wouldn't have bothered listening to the whole thing. I gave 4 stars to first book, but it drops to 3, then 2, by the the third book. I don't want to give spoilers, but too many plot holes, deus ex machina occurences, "twists" that are entirely expected, and actions by protagonist that are just silly and clearly made entirely to move plot along. Entire premise of "bad guy" actions is never explained enough to clarify how their "good" actions would actually accomplish anything. Narrator does really nice job throughout, however.
