Believable story of a family caught by the Nazi invasion. I wish the author had indicated who were actual historical figures. Some are obvious. Was this based after a particular family??

An unexpected joy. This story shares depth of soul in an historically turbulent, violent era. I have stayed at a similar hotel when the USSR ruled, this tale awoke memories of the time.

So disappointing, nothing historical in this fictional story. I thought I accidentally was listening to a “Harlequin Romancé.”

If you are going to attempt this story, the story starts in Chapter 4.
Even though the narrater is the same person as in previous storys, she sounds lack-luster in the Painted Queen. Turning the rate to double speed does help.
I loved her previous books, I am so sad for her death. But that does not make the reading any better.

Wonderful, believable characters, just like my mother and aunts. Ridiculously funny situations brought about by very droll personalities. Freddy is the guy one can always count on to help, even in odd situations.
An intriguing mystery that kept me wondering.
A thoroughly enjoyable listening experience.

The narrator not only presented a completely fake accent. She also read in a fainting sing-song rythme that was almost impossible to be heard. The story had an interesting historical aspect. Presenting “blood letting” as a viable medical technique. But, heavens, change the narrator.
