Jayne Frost is a winter elf, Jack Frost's daughter, Santa Claus's niece, heir to the Winter Throne, and now private investigator. Needing someone he can trust, her father sends her to Nocturne Falls to find out why employees at a toy store are going missing. Doing that requires getting to know the town, which leads to interesting encounters with a sexy vampire, an old flame, and an elevator that's strictly off-limits. The more Jayne finds out, the more questions she has, but the answers lead her deeper into danger.

Although I don’t remember the Christmas store as part of the prior Nocturne Falls books, I did enjoy this story. I wish there’d been some additional wrap up regarding the elves (not saying more). Good narration.

Madisyn Drake is a rare breed of cat shifter…a loner, unpredictably wild, and emotionally distant. A recent betrayal has left her ready to sharpen her claws on the next man she sees…until a prowling wolf with steel-gray eyes and a brooding dark edge challenges her distrust. No matter how fully he satisfies her touch-hunger, Madisyn’s not ready to open up again, even if it is oh so gratifying. Bracken Slater has earned his reputation as an indomitable predator. Once broken by grief and guilt, he is feeling alive again, thanks to the heady scent of this independent feline.

Overall a solid continuation of the Mercury & Phoenix pack stories. The author continues to integrate the stories and characters well, so if you've listened to the previous installments, this is a seamless pick up. I had to look up the cat species (no spoiler!) so I could see a picture. The only thing really for me is that I don't think Bracken was portrayed so emotionally scarred by events that occurred with his family before this story, so I kept trying to recall some of that from prior stories. Regardless, I found it enjoyable.

This is being called book 17 of the BDB series, but there was really very little to do with BDB at this time. A few references to Caldwell and the Lessors. A few passing references to the BDB and the King. Nothing else. Perhaps one or more of the leads will end up in the BDB at some point in a future story?? I hope it's foundational and we see these characters incorporated going forward. Regardless, it was a good story that pulled me in quickly and kept me interested. I'd recommend it for any JRWard or BDB fan, although - like I said - you won't truly be getting a BDB story.

When you think about how easy it is to lose keys, phones, sunglasses and your dignity on social media, you might figure it'd be a cinch for me to ditch my V Card. You'd be wrong. At 25, I run a successful business, live in a fantastic apartment, and have fabulous friends to go out with any night of the week. And yet I'm still a card-carrying member of a club I don't want to belong to anymore. Good thing I know just the man for the deflowering job - my brother’s business partner and best friend.

This was a quick, enjoyable story that was easily finished. It’s not complex but has enough interesting going on to pull you in quickly. The narration was great- voices like warm honey. I’ve said this in other reviews- the stories Lauren is putting out are short- too short in my opinion- and even shorter than “advertised “ because they generally include excerpts for upcoming books. That happened here, too, and makes me sad. I can get my feel for the story from reading the summary and listening to the sample prior to making a purchasing decision. I don’t want to purchase a relatively short story only to find out it’s even shorter due to the addition of excerpts.

For seven years Rebecca has brightened my office with her wit and her smile. She manages both my hockey team and my sanity. I don't know when I started waking in the night, craving her. All I know is that one whiff of her perfume ruins my concentration. And her laugh makes me hard.

I purchased this book based on the summary during one of the half price sales. I didn’t pay attention that it was book 4 in the series. I enjoyed the story so much that when I was almost through I went back to pull up the author to see what else she had so I could do another purchase or plan for next time. The story was fine as a stand alone. I didn’t feel like there were gaps or confusion. I recommend this as a great listen.

That's when I lose my mind.
