This is a fun book about time traveling historians and their many adventures. I really enjoyed the entire book. The stories were a bit disjointed so I only gave it 4 stars. Light hearted and fun read!

This started out strong and very interesting about the positive physical effects of 3 days in nature. If it had ended at the end of the first hour it would have great, but it just went on and on and on for another 2 1/2 hours. It was supposed to be a scientific study and the second part of the study didn’t even have any scientific information with it. I found myself not even wanting to finish the book, but I powered through at a faster speed to finish it.

The Mrs Polifax books are fun, good old fashioned spy stories. Each book seems to stand alone, so you could definitely pick up any of them. Mrs Polifax is a retired widow who ends up with a new career as an unlikely spy. This particular story brings her to China and keeps the reader guessing throughout. Not a literary masterpiece, but a good, fun read. I have already read 2 of the books in the series before this one, and I will definitely read more books in the series. Also excellent narration!

Both the story and the narration were pretty slow for this book. The narrator was very good, albeit slow - I ended up listening to the book at 1.25x speed and that worked well for me.
The story is about a smoke jumper, and the first 10 chapters basically chronicle the life of a smoke jumper, with a couple of slow simmering romances peppered in. If you can make it to chapter 10 without getting too bored the plot gets much more interesting. I’ll just leave it at that so I don’t give anything away, but there does get to be some mystery & suspense along with a little romance. I enjoyed the listen in the end, but it was definitely on the slow side.

The narration by Fisher Stevens was outstanding and really sold this book! The story although hilariously told, was not as good as the first book in the series. Still worthwhile to read/listen, but left me wanting to listen to the first book again. Definitely read the first book in the series, A Dirty Job, before reading this book. Expect huge amounts of gratuitous profanity. As long as that doesn't bother you, you will laugh your ass off!!

The pacing of the story was EXTREMELY SLOW throughout all of part 1 and half of part 2. This whole section should have been pared down to just a few chapters. If you can bear with it until the last half of the book it really starts to get interesting. I enjoyed the last half even though the plot was predictable. I was set to rate the story much lower, but ended up with 3 stars since it really picked up at the end.

The narration was painfully slow, which made the initial slow plot line almost unbearable. I seriously considered not finishing the book, but I hate to not finish a book I've started.

I strongly recommend listening to a sample of the book before purchasing it. Besides being very, very slow speaking, the southern accents are very bad and grating to listen to. One of the main characters is a 3 year old girl and the the narrator does a lot of baby-talk throughout the book. Again, extremely grating to listen to. For the first time ever I tried increasing the speed of the narration and found that 1.5x speed was about perfect.

This story has so much potential to be a fantastic book but just really fell flat. Everything in the story, from character development to historical events to code breaking and espionage, was just spoon-fed to the reader by the narrator when it should have been "shown" to the reader through the story. I would love for this book to be rewritten with the same storyline because I believe it could be great.

First of all, the narrator is absolutely fantastic!! I think listening to the book with this narrator rather than reading it really enhanced the story and brought it to life.

The story is about Charlie, a second hand store owner, who is widowed with a young daughter, and finds himself thrust into the job of ushering the souls of the recently deceased. The book is quirky and hilarious. It has a lot of foul language, so be aware if that is something that might bother you. A very entertaining read.

This entire book really was a charming and unexpected adventure! A retired, widowed woman in her 60's decided her life needed more excitement and direction, so convinced the CIA to hire her as a spy. Her very first assignment, meant to be a relatively safe & simple courier task turns into the adventure of a lifetime. I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next and am excited to read the other books in the series. A fun, quick read.

This cozy mystery was full of coffee facts and tips. I enjoyed the story and the coffee references (made me crave coffee while listening!) and will likely read more books in the series. I feel like there were some loose ends, but I'm sure some of that was set-up for future books.
