Award-winning author Fonda Lee explodes onto the adult fantasy scene with Jade City, an epic saga reminiscent of The Godfather with magic and kung fu, set in an Asia-inspired fantasy metropolis. Jade is the lifeblood of the island of Kekon. It has been mined, traded, stolen, and killed for - and for centuries, honorable Green Bone warriors like the Kaul family have used it to enhance their magical abilities and defend the island from foreign invasion. Now, the war is over and a new generation of Kauls vies for control of Kekon's bustling capital city.

This book was so well written. The characters and storyline run deep and have you completely vested in this world and the people in it. It is a completely unique story unlike any I have ever heard. There is no way to predict anything that happens, however every twist and suprise is understandable, because the book is so authentic to who we are as humans, even in a world of magic.

I thought this book would be corny, but Audible Only books usually are some of the best, so I took a chance. I loved this book. It was funny, the characters were engaging and layered, the story and flashbacks were perfectly timed and layed out. The concept of the "narrative" along with the other philosophical concepts and questions raised in this book was done seamlessly. the full cast of narrators enhanced the book adding to its enjoyment tremendously. If you want a light hearted but thoughtful book full of suprises, fun, and a good old fashioned quest - then get this book.

Andrea Vernon always thought she would spend her life living in Paris writing thought-provoking historical novels all day and sipping wine on the Seine all night. But the reality is she's drowning in debt, has no prospects, and is forced to move back to Queens, where her parents remind her daily that they are very interested in grandchildren. Then, one morning, she is kidnapped, interviewed, and hired as an administrative assistant by the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection. Superheroes for hire, using their powers for good. This book was so hilarious. I thought it would be silly based on the cover and description but I now consider it a classic. Bahni Turpin is one of my favorite narrators and she did an exceptional job with all of the voices. She brings each character to life with their slang, accents, and nuisances. Perfect execution. The book was very funny and the characters believable in a super hero way. Imagine if superheros worked in Corporate America, had concerns about retirement and health benefits, office romances, and a strict policy manual. Add the author's ability to insert real life dialogue and seemingly endless imagination for complex well defined characters and you have a delightful laugh out loud book. I loved every second. Book 2 Please!!!

This book was absolutely amazing. As an African American totally obsessed with Sci-Fantasy novels, this book came as needed relief from the books that are not as reflective of diversity. Besides that, this book has all of the things that make this genre great - a quest, complex characters that change with their experiences, magic, history, action, jokes, plot twists, and an ending no one could ever in a million years see coming. People are human and faced with impossible choices, but the choices still have to be made. This book clearly understands that and keeps the reader engaged by realistically asking those questions. A million thanks to the author Tomi Adeyemi for writing such a raw story where we all feel exposed and my favorite narrator Bahni Turpin for bringing it to life. More Please :-).

After hanging out with these characters in the last 2 books, It was awesome to listen to them all come together. The story was unique and interesting, The action, plot, and movement was fast paced and dynamic. I loved how it was centered around Japanese legends and folklore, a departure from what we usually hear in urban fantasy. Never saw the ending coming the way it did and it was a flawless execution. You are truly transported to a different world right along with the characters. The best part, I laughed through the entire book. The comedy, the comedy, the comedy - Loved It!

Let's get one thing straight - Ivy Wilde is not a heroine. In fact she's probably the last witch in the world you'd call if you needed a magical helping hand, regardless of her actual abilities. If it were down to Ivy, she'd spend all day every day on her sofa, where she could watch TV, munch junk food, and talk to her feline familiar to her heart's content. However, when a bureaucratic disaster ends up with Ivy as the victim of a case of mistaken identity, she's yanked very unwillingly into Arcane Branch.
