I have LOVED Jon Ronson's books in the past, and always look forward to his book (or audible show? As the case may be) when a new one comes out. I'm not sure if he is now obsessed with the pornography world, or he thought he came across an interesting story when he was researching his series about porn (The Butterfly Effect) but, enough with the porn Jon! I didn't find it very interesting, and it wasn't relatable unless you work in the porn industry.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I guess I didn't realize this wasn't an actual book when I ordered it. But all it is is a man saying "you should think positively for a week" and comparing it to a diet. He doesn't give any how-to's or anything. That's it.

Was Theft by Finding worth the listening time?

I love David Sedaris, and have read all of his books and essays. I pre-ordered this because that's what a big fan I am of his. But I found this book, which is just his diaries, very boring. I only managed to get halfway through before I decided it was too boring and not worth my listening time.

Any additional comments?

I think publishers jumped the gun on this, trying to ride the wave of her newfound fame and controversy. The book should have been condensed to include only the (mildly) interesting parts, which would have made it about half the length. Constant "footnotes" made it really annoying to listen to (probably better in print?) and sorry Amy, but I don't like having your political views shoved down my throat at length. I doubt I will read anything from her again.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Norm Macdonald and Tim O'Halloran ?

Normally I prefer autobiographies read by the author. But I found I didn't like Norm MacDonald's voice or way of speaking.

Any additional comments?

I only listened to the first 4 chapters, but I was finding it depressing. Also, Norm is describing life as the child of a poor farmer in rural Canada. Wikipedia says he's the son of teachers, and born in the city of Quebec. I don't get it, but I decided not to continue listening and I'm returning this audiobook.

Any additional comments?

I'd seen "Odd Mom Out" and thought it was funny, so I thought I'd give one of Jill's books a try. I didn't make it past the 2nd chapter. Jill seems to thing that more curse words=more coolness. I'm not even that bothered by expletives, but it's tiring when there are 1-2 in each sentence, mingled with Yiddish words. Jill Kargman tries very hard to convince you what a hip and goth-cool mom she is. I was annoyed and couldn't take any more of it by the 2nd chapter. I returned this audiobook.

What was most disappointing about Ronald Miscavige and Dan Koon ’s story?

I think he skips over a lot of things about his son because it's his own son. I've read many books about Co$ and this one is the least informative. I was hoping he'd talk about the rage and violence issues demonstrated by DM in his youth, and witnessed by many. Or about how and when he first demonstrated his sociopathic behaviour, etc. Also I was hoping to hear the inside scoop on how a person like DM rose so high in the Co$ leadership. This book was more about Ronald Misciavage's life, with some side notes about his once happy, normal son who all of a sudden became mean.

What did you like best about this story?

I've always been fascinated and perplexed by the CO$ cult, and I read just about every book that comes out about it, most are from a journalistic or disgruntled family member's perspective. This one was uniquely fascinating because Leah is the first high-profile celebrity to leave the cult and tell all. Leah's style of storytelling is honest, self-deprecating, and funny. I loved all the juicy tidbits about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes as well.

Would you be willing to try another one of Jenny Lawson’s performances?

NO! After 30 minutes I just couldn't take it anymore. The pitch and cadence of her voice were so annoying! Perhaps I will give the book version a try, but just can't do the audio version at all.
