He should have thrown her out. But when club owner Alexander Lavoie catches a mysterious blonde counting cards at his vingt-et-un table, he's more intrigued than angry. He has to see more of this beauty - in his club, in his office, in his bed. But first he'll have to devise a proposition she can't turn down.

I really don’t get the title. Someone didn’t read the book before coming up with a title. The male voices weren’t the greatest. They basically all sounded the same. Ok story. Typical romance, mostly predictable. One thing that was annoying: the narrator kept lowering her voice to a whisper when the narrative called for it and I would have to crank the sound way up to hear what was being said. Basically an ok story and pleasant way to zone out for a few hours.

It's a gorgeous autumn day in Georgetown. The Democratic candidates for president and vice-president of the United States are dutifully glad-handing voters and the media outside a grand estate where a national-security conference has just been held, bringing together the world's greatest minds to discuss the issues that are threatening the country. It's American politicking at its best. That's when all hell breaks loose.

Good story that held my interest but lots of details about everything. Never read Vince Flynn before but his writing reminds me of Lee Child’s in the Jack Reacher books. So much detail about every little thing. Sometimes it got annoying. If I’m reading a book, I pretty much skip over all those detailed descriptions of clothes, destinations etc. doubt that I’ll read any more Vince Flynn.

I was disappointed in this author. My first read by her and it will be my last. About a third of it was soft porn and after the third or fourth scene, it got pretty boring. The plot was so typical, it was easy to predict what would happen. The only saving grace was the narrator. She was outstanding; the best I’ve heard on all the Audible reads.

In this first novel, we are introduced to suave, handsome Tom Ripley: a young striver, newly arrived in the heady world of Manhattan in the 1950s. A product of a broken home, branded a "sissy" by his dismissive Aunt Dottie, Ripley becomes enamored of the moneyed world of his new friend, Dickie Greenleaf. This fondness turns obsessive when Ripley is sent to Italy to bring back his libertine pal, but he grows enraged by Dickie's ambivalent feelings for Marge, a charming American dilettante.

Didn’t see the movie, but can’t imagine any actor portraying the depth of the character in the book. Really enjoyed seeing his personality coming out. Also enjoyed the 50’s atmosphere when men wore suits and women wore skirts and blouses. A great listen!

What a disappointment this was. I could barely stand listening to all Drew’s bragging and his self centered arrogance. When Kate called him a pig, I agreed wholeheartedly. Neither character came to life or was fleshed out.
The author uses a first person storytelling as her narrative. This got old real fast. Don’t tell me what happened, use interaction between characters to show me what happened. It’s a lot harder to use dialog between people than to just sum up their actions. I didn’t get any sense of either of them falling in love. There was no fleshing out of their characters. All we had was Drew’s self centered storytelling version of who he thought he was and how he thought Kate was crazy about him. Despite Kate denying their relationship was just lust, it seemed pretty clear that’s exactly what it was. The sex scenes were not romantic at all, just boring descriptions of sexual gymnastics. This one is going back. Don’t waste your credit.

The narrator was a delight. She did a great job with the male voices, even distinguishing between the various male leads. The story grabbed me from the start. The writing was good and I didn’t want it to end. I wasn’t familiar with the author (new to Audible), but am glad I took a chance on her. Now I hope there are more in the series and they’re equally as good. Highly recommended.
