Sally Webber's dream is coming true: Zander is back and taking her out for a night on the town - on a planet hundreds of light-years away from Earth. But when an accident separates her from her alien tour guide, she’s thrown into the seedy underbelly of an insane city where nothing is as it seems. Suddenly lost and desperate to get back home, Sally is willing to do anything to get out, even if it means accepting spontaneous marriage proposals, crashing some fancy parties, or joining what appears to be the space mob.

Thoroughly enjoyed this second space adventure in the Starstruck series. Sally truly shows just how strong and adaptable a human can be-such a great and funny heroine!

Can't wait to read the next one in the series!

All Jamie Allenby ever wanted was space. Even though she wasn't forced to emigrate from Earth, she willingly left the overpopulated, claustrophobic planet. And when a long relationship devolved into silence and suffocating sadness, she found work on a frontier world on the edges of civilization. Then the virus hit. Now Jamie finds herself dreadfully alone, with all that's left of the dead. Until a garbled message from Earth gives her hope that someone from her past might still be alive.

I enjoyed the main character and travel companions as well as the story's evolution through the stars.

Touches on topics like what would happen if there was a mass outbreak that decimated humans, how would society function, who would want to do that/benefit from it.

As well there is the emotional side of it, how would we mentally cope with being alone, isolated, possinly so spread apart that we'd be unable or unwilling to reproduce, etc. How would we treat each other.

Much food for thought and a satisfying enough finish for my taste.

Being a criminal kingpin is more work and less fun than everyone makes it seem. Carl Ramsey is the head of his own criminal syndicate. With a hundred men and women and the resources of a tiny jungle moon at his disposal, life should have gotten easier, not harder. Infighting, politics, and a lack of income to pay everyone begin to tear the syndicate apart from the inside. And the last thing Carl needs is his father stepping in to try to help.

The Mobius is a cobbled-together ship with a matching crew. Captain Carl Ramsey is an ex-Earth Navy pilot whose crew won't let him fly his own ship. The pilot is his ex-wife, the mechanic is a drunk, and the chief of security is from a predatory species. Instead of a star-drive to travel through the astral space between worlds, the ship's wizard does it by hand.

Loveable crew of misfits, balanced with peril of jobs they take on that are less than respectable. Good world building around them with rules for travelling etc.

Narrator does great job with all the characters.

Just because every job we pull goes supernova doesn't mean this one will. Captain Carl Ramsey and the crew of the Mobius are constantly on the run from one bad decision to the next. Every time it looks like they might score big, something goes wrong. But no one ever got ahead by quitting, and the only alternative is honest work. There are always more jobs to pull, more schemes to hatch, and more authorities to evade.

Rico has a problem. The experimental program that gave him the high intelligence and lightning reflexes he needs as a hit man for a galactic crime syndicate left him incapable of internalizing moral imperatives the rest of us take for granted. It takes real effort for him to pass as a normal human being and he avoids it whenever he can. But he has a job he loves, a fast ship, and plenty of cash. So life is good.

I enjoyed this adventure and did find humour in his attitude towards children...but kidding aside, for a sci-fi read it felt much more like a cop procedural mixed with assassination and spy intrigue, as they were on one planet the entire time. Enjoyed while on a summer road trip.

Originally written for the pulp magazines of the 1920s and '30s, H. P. Lovecraft's astonishing tales blend elements of horror, science fiction, and cosmic terror that are as powerful today as they were when first published. This tome brings together all of Lovecraft's harrowing stories, including the complete Cthulhu Mythos cycle, just the way they were when first released.

After you read this you will always laugh at cycloplyean....this was my first foray into Lovecraft it was a pleasure to delve into.

I didn't have any issues with different narrators, and was creeped out with Keith Szarabajka's performances-realizing it was him only when the charachter I was picturing in my head looked like Holtz from Angel the TV show...and then the lightbulb went on, as it was the actor who played that character reading the stories! He's has a great dark toned voice.

The story order did feel a bit random but I was game to ingest it all. Knowing the stories were produced as short stories and published in the past for print, it is understandable that the author has to recap some parts as they would have been released in the press at intervals. And my Granny is still somewhat racist...so something written in the past will definitely be written with the sentiments of the times. Just makes you appreciate the struggles that have gotten us to where we are today and where we still need to get to...

All in all I quite enjoyed it and especially as a big fan of Horror and scifi I can now be a snob and scoff at those who have not yet read H.P. Lovecraft! Just kidding of course, it's all a journey so just enjoy it!

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.
