Since the days of conquistador Hernán Cortés, rumors have circulated about a lost city of immense wealth hidden somewhere in the Honduran interior, called the White City or the Lost City of the Monkey God. Indigenous tribes speak of ancestors who fled there to escape the Spanish invaders, and they warn that anyone who enters this sacred city will fall ill and die.

Starting off, this selection was a little slow, not realizing it is a true story, but I was very glad to have "stuck it out". This read is very informative on a wide variety of subjects, yet very related by history and experience. It turns out to have several twists in the narrative that make this a "don't miss" title.

In 1918, the world was still in the throes of the Great War, the deadliest conflict in human history at that point, but while World War I would be a catastrophic war surpassed only by World War II, an unprecedented influenza outbreak that same year inflicted casualties that would make both wars pale in comparison.

The narration is very well presented with just enough feeling and yet, just right for the material at hand. The case files are supremely well assembled with backgrounds on all characters and their families.

That, which is usually presented as the first 36 chapters of The Book of Enoch was originally known as the Book of the Watchers and dates to around 200 BC. This translation of the Book of the Watchers comes to us from notable scholar of apocryphal literature, R. H. Charles, who published it in 1917. The narrative of the Book of the Watchers is told from the point of view of Enoch and not surprisingly focuses on a class of angels known as the Watchers.

I found this one hard to focus on the story because of the narration. It seemed like he was trying to create grandiose on every single phrase. As for the story-line, this was my first experience with this type literature.

This one is a great chapter in the Pernese saga.

The narration severely diatracts from the storyline. The articulation of speech is too strong: it feels like a forced performance. The narrator's depiction of the characters give every single character a distasteful persona. However, the dragons' speech was very cleverly differentiated.
