Captain Hayward leads the official homocide investigation, while Pendergast, D'Agosta, and Nora undertake a private quest for the truth. Their serpentine journey takes them into a part of Manhattan they never imagined could exist: a secretive and deadly hotbed of Obeah, the West Indian Zombii cult of sorcery and magic. And it is here they find their true peril is just beginning.

I am a huge Pendergast fan so I just bought this without even reading the reviews. Plus, a lot of the reviews give away the plot which is why I generally never watch movie trailers. Well I should have skipped this book. I was totally sickened by the constant description of the animal sacrifices. I know it is only a book (fiction) but it still was very difficult to listen to. Plus all the voodoo and zombies. Geez! The plot was very predictable and you don't have to read this book to continue with the rest of the series so my opinion is....SKIP IT! (I did give the performance by Rene Auberjonois 5 stars. He is one of my favorite readers. Too bad the story was not worth his talent. )

They should have called this Death of a Listener. It bored me to death. I could not wait for it to end and it is a relatively short audiobook. I bought it because it has over 4 stars. Seriously? But this is part of a larger series and maybe if I had started with book 1? That is not going to happen now. I guess this is just 'not my cup of tea'.
