I love this series. Every part except the ending. For some they will love the ending as much as the rest of the books but no me. Killing off major characters is part of great writing but only when their death adds to the story. In this book I don’t feel the death added anything to the story, just took away from it but like I said, some of you will like how this one ends.

This is an amazing book. Well written and even better narration. If you have any Irish heritage, this book will make you cry, laugh, fume, cheer and swear!! You will be filled with pride, sorrow and anger. If you don’t already despise the British, you will after this book. I first read the hard copy over 20 years ago but had a hankering for some Irish nationalism and decided to listen to this story again. The narrators reading sounded exactly like it did in my head when I first read this book. I highly recommend this story to anyone but would especially recommend this story to any of British decent, so you can see what a terrible heartless group of people the British were. And maybe you can gain a little more sympathy for the Irish and their great struggle. F$&k Ulster, the UVF and the profs in Northern Ireland.

Ok so first off I loved the first book and every minute of this book until the last 10 minutes or so and then I hated it. The author made the classic mistake that many authors make when trying to score some dramatic points or a just plain too lazy to get creative with their story. Killing off a main character in a obvious and pointless fashion is the epitome of bad story telling. There are times when killing off a main and beloved character adds so much to the story unfortunately in this case it takes a great story and ruins it. Ivan see several ways the author may try and use this death as motivation for some other characters in future books, like having the dead mans brother blame Res for his brothers death and becoming his enemy or maybe the annoying sister now plots to betray Res. Or it could motivate them to Blane the usurper king and drive them more on Res side but at least for the brother that was already happening without killing his younger brother and the sister really isn’t a necessary character and shouldn’t become one. She is background at best. So all in all it I was a wasted killing of a main character and probably ruined the story for the rest of the series. I drive a lot for work so I love to listen to series in their entirety and If I like the first book I usually buy all the rest and binge listen to them. I did the same for King’s Dark Tidings series but now I think I’m going to return books 3&4. I have no desire to read an author that is too inept or lazy to write a good/creative death and instead foes for the cheap drama. Sorry just my opinion. But I’m very disappointed with the direction this series took.

What a bit*h Lirac is. I’ve never despised a main character. Overall the story is good but lirac is a whine little self loathing poor me loser. I can’t stand when an author believes his character needs to have a moral dilemma over killing to survive. Are you kidding me. Grow up.

I loved this series and loved this book right up until the end. I really thought the ending was anticlimactic. I expected much more drama during the final battle and a much longer wrap up. I feel a little cheated. Still a great read. Highly recommend.

This is one of the best stories I have ever read. At times I found myself laughing out loud, balling my eyes out, furious and shouting all the emotions of real life are brought out by this wonderful tale. Fitz, Nighteyes, Fool you will all be deeply missed. I wish this story could go on forever. I feel like I've lost a best friend or loved one with the ending of this tale but I am so glad I read this tale.

I like this story but at times I found the jibberjabber to be annoying. Hogan could have told a better story with less elaborate description. It seemed that half this book was unnecessary info that really didn't add to the story and In fact dragged out the story to an almost unbearable length. There were many times I thought to myself, just get to the damn point already. Read if you like over descriptions

Amazing read (or listen) great story line and I like how the main characters don't stumble into trap after trap and survive by some outrageous miracle. Definitely will be following Mr Robertson from now on. I've already added the rest of his books to my wish list!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would and have recommended this audiobook to friends. I loved all of the books when i read them and wanted to share the great experience of these books with friends but i also know many of my friends dont have the time or wont invest the time to read all these books. I love to discuss these books and many others that i read and my solution to my friends lack of time was to recommend these audiobooks. Many of my friends travel for work (long flights or many hours behind the wheel) and i suggested these audiobooks as a way to pass the hours traveling. So far they all have showed interest and i even had one of my buddies listen to all 5 of the A Song of Ice and Fire books in the last 2 months!!! Thank you Audible, GRRM and Roy Dotrice.

Who was your favorite character and why?

How can i pick just one character????????? There are so many to love and hate but heres a few i did love:

Arya - Might be the best character i have ever read!!! Everyone should have a little sis like Arya!! Brave, intelegent, resorceful and vurnable!!!

John Snow - made me want to have a bastard brother (if that could happen with out my dad cheating on my mom) He is a man of unbreakable honor, great intellegence and foresight, compassion but will make the hard choice that needs to be made!!

Tiron - what he lacks in size he more than makes up for in wit, intellegence, boldness, foresight, and loyality.

Dani - the woman of every mans dreams. Strong but vurnable, Wise beyond here years, one of the worlds great beauties. Compasionate yet vengful. a true leader with a little growing up to do!!!

A few i hate (hate them but love that their in the books)

First and foremost
Cersi - She is the ultimate villian. Best villian i have ever read!!!

Sansa - winny little brat. she has her head in the clouds like so many young girls dreaming of being the star ( or in her case the queen). Neive beyond all reason

lysa - Bitch of all bitches. she is everything i hate in women.

What does Roy Dotrice bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Roy brings to life all the different characters. I know when i read the story i gave some of the characters a voice but nothing like Roy does. I love reading the books but hearing Roy's version brought the books to a whole new level. He is amazing!!!!!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not only did i want to listen to this book all in one sitting but i wanted to listen to all 5 books back to back!!!. I cant wait for the final 2 books to come out (come on GRRM write faster.. J/K your work is worth the wait) so i can go on a 2 week vacation, lock the doors, turn off the cell phone/TV/email/internet and listen to all 7 books back to back!!!!

Any additional comments?

I love Audible. Worth every penny!!!!
