Good story, great characters, plenty of surprises. I do wish the narrator hadn't dropped from a loud tone to a low whisper so often. Most people listen while driving. Many times, road noise drowned out the softer parts. I had to back up and change the volume dozens of times. Ch. 13 was particularly annoying due to drastic ups and downs of volume.

When they find themselves off at the family's country estate, long simmering desires will come to the forefront and Jude won't be able to stop himself from taking that one, oh-so-forbidden taste.

It is rare that I don't finish a book, but I only made it through 3 1/2 chapters of this. I really don't know if it's a good story, but the narration drove me crazy. I, like most listeners, am in my car. I got tored of changing the volume up, up, up, down, up, down, down ,up. The narrator's voice is pleasant and the accent lovely, but it's too loud at times, then drops to a whisper.
It's not worth it to me to be changing the volume constantly. I missed numerous phrases and sentences due to the constant volume fluctuations.

The Survivors Club has been a wonderful, delicious read, different from most other Regency romances in that the survivors are not perfect, physically or emotionally. They've each been through a private hell of suffering, yet through their strength, both individual and collective, learned to live again.
The narration is more than excellent; it borders on exquisite. I always enjoy Ms. Landor's voice, and this is some of her best ever work.
I enjoyed each story, but this one, perhaps, touched my heart most deeply. It reveals the innate goodness of George, and at last, reveals the heartache he endured that led him to open his estate to severely injured officers from the war. Each of the other survivors found love and happiness, but George remained both alone and lonely, so it is fitting that all his friends appear in George's story, as he and Dora find their own love in spite of secrets, danger, and malicious gossip.
I'm truly sorry to see the series end, but knowing Mary Balogh's work, I can realistically hope that the characters will make cameos in future tales.
Well done, Ms. Balogh. Well done, indeed.

Narrator mumbles. I have exceptionally good hearung, and I listen while driving, as do many others. I understood about 1/8 of the words. In places, her voice dropped so low that I had to turn the volume ALL the way up, repeat the passage, and then turn it down some. She talks way too fast, as well. I really can't judge the story, because I have no idea what was said. After 5 chapters of struggling, I gave up.
