Aliens exist...and, as it turns out, most of them aren’t that friendly. Jacob Brown wasn’t even born yet the first time they attacked Earth. He was only 14 the second time it happened. When Earth finally came together and fielded its first spaceborne military, Jacob didn’t hesitate to volunteer. Serving aboard a mighty starship, he’d be able to defend his planet - and his family - when, inevitably, they came again.

I have listened to this series at least 4 times through book 10, eagerly awaiting book 11.
I could not be much happier with the turns the author brings into this series.
It pains me that I am still waiting for the next book.
The worlds he has given to my imagination have endless depth.
You will know if you will like the series early in book one.
I would like to say more but would not want to ruin the journey that awaits any fan of syfi with this well crafted series.

There are thousands of bounty hunters across the galaxy. Solid professionals that take jobs based on the credits the bounties afford. They follow the letter of the law so they can maximize those credits. Licensed, bonded, legal. Then there's Roak.

Alex Racine, who led an elite group of humans and SADEs (self-ware digital entities), left the newly discovered planet of Celus-5 under difficult circumstances. Few of the Harakens with Alex thought there was little he could do to bring peace to the embroiled planet. From their viewpoint, the demands of the Celus-5 Swei Swee, the six-legged aliens of the ocean, and the Dischnya, the warring, doglike, intelligent creatures who inhabited the dry plains, were too convoluted to solve.

Thank you S.H. Jucha, i will be looking forward to them all. This book entertainingly rehashed (as well as a lot of new content) and caught up anyone who was half paying attention and refocused Alex on the REAL mission set up in book one. His world building includes some detail but not enough to bore. I enjoy the philosophy of good people doing great things, if only in reality this could be true. Love this series and this is the book where i say that for sure. i have been on the fence with a love/hate and one thing that really sets this author apart is the fact that the charters do not change their core beliefs or ideals to suit some sort of agenda/message the author is forcing down my throat.
The beliefs are the same from book one and you either like it or not. that has been my love/hate, i am always leery of the charters having some sort of 'change' then the book is preaching to me. this book has some of those elements but done in a fashion that is respectable and entertaining.

Hank is a thug. He knows he's a thug. He has no problem with that realization. In his view the galaxy has given him a gift: a mutation that allows him to withstand great deals of physical trauma. He puts his abilities to the best use possible and that isn't by being a scientist. Besides, the space station Belvaille doesn't need scientists. It is not, generally, a thinking person's locale. It is the remotest habitation in the entire Colmarian Confederation. There is literally no reason to be there.

What did you like best about this story?

The fact that there is not a lot of hemming and hawing about the moral decisions.

What does Paul Heitsch bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I prefer to listen to books and Paul does a great job of keeping me listening to the story and not his reading.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The series does have some great humor peppered in to it.
