When vampires attack David White's small town, only luck, firepower, and the intervention of an elite government task force saves his life. The aftermath of the attack leaves him in the middle of the world's biggest secret: the existence of government agencies that regulate the supernatural. They insist that David's "luck" is actually a supernatural gift, and he's immediately recruited into ONSET, the most shadowy part of America's thin blue line of police protectors.

I should have waited until book 3 was available to start this incredible KDT journey because now I will be in withdrawal while awaiting the next leg of this continuing, fantastical saga!
I cannot sing enough praises for both the amazing author and my new favorite voice actor. Since this is an audiobook I need to express my opinion that Mr. Podehl's range of voices and accents and cadence and interpretation of each character is simply mind-blowing! He makes an already fabulous story just so much more enjoyable that I am now looking at his other works to bask in his amazing talent!
Ms. Kade, thanks for bringing us a seemingly undefeatable protagonist. I really do enjoy it when the hero has tons of talent and powers. I can't wait to hear what other as yet unexplained or undiscovered powers will appear. Bring it!

NYPD Detective Alec MacAidan has always been good with weird. After all, his life has been a string of the unexplainable. But when an injured man gives him cryptic clues, then turns to dust in front of him, Alec's view on weird is changed forever. Cronin, a vampire Elder, has spent the last 1,000 years waiting for Alec. He'd been told his fated one would be a man wielding a shield, but he didn't expect him to be human, and he certainly didn't expect that shield to be a police badge.
