After a young, seemingly healthy woman collapses suddenly on the NYC subway and dies by the time she reaches the hospital, her case is initially chalked up to influenza. That is, until she ends up on Dr. Jack Stapleton's autopsy table, where Jack discovers something eerily fishy: First, that the young woman has had a heart transplant, and second, that her DNA matches that of the transplanted heart. Strangely, two more incidences of young people with this same sudden and rapid illness follow. Something is off about these cases, and only Jack can figure it out before it's too late.

I love Robin Cook but the narration of George Guidall is distracting. He reads like he is always trying to catch his breath which causes unnecessary pauses in the wrong places. I may have to go back to reading my Robin Cook novels.

Maybe this was one of Konrath's earlier books but listening to it was torturous. I started with Konrath's The List and it was wonderful! I also loved the other serial killer books. I forced myself to listen to this entire book hoping it would get better...it didn't. Even the narration was became annoying when she began dragging out words.

What did you love best about Breakthrough?

The story was easy to follow; it did not get lost in frivolous details; it was engaging and I loved the dolphins.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

A few times...

Any additional comments?

I would have liked a clearer ending that told exactly how Durk survived and what happened to Palin. And the satisfaction of knowing exactly what happened to Stevis.
