I thought the book was almost over (audible) and had the end guessed and thought it was good. When I saw I had 10 hours to go I couldn't imagine what was next. The twists were shocking and at first I thought it was too much. I kept listening and it was so creative and full of crazy that I loved it. I read mostly true crime so the behaviors of the bad guy was within the usual. Not disgusting at all to me. Not for the faint of heart.

The nightmare home. We thought we'd found our haven, a cottage deep in the heart of the forest. Quaint, charming, maybe a little run-down, but so peaceful. The woodland animals and birds couldn't have been more neighbourly. That was the first part of the Magic. Midge's painting and my music soared to new heights of creativity. That was another part of the Magic. Our sensing, our feelings, our love for each other - well, that became the supreme Magic. But the cottage had an alternative side. The Bad Magic.

Mackenzie Allen Phillips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation, and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later, in this midst of his great sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack one wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change his life forever.

I kept waiting for something to happen besides the authors idea of God. I had no idea I had not purchased a mystery about an abducted child. Instead it was chapter after chapter of religious interpretation which is all childish fantasy to me. Waste of time. I kept waiting and waiting for it to be a great story. Ugh!!!
