It’s a bittersweet reunion for Mac Faraday when members of his former homicide squad arrive at the Spencer Inn. While it is sweet to attend the wedding of the daughter of a former colleague, it is a bitter reminder that the mother of the bride had been the victim of a double homicide on her own wedding night. The brutal slaying weighing heavy on his mind, Mac is anxious to explore every possibility for a break in the cold case - even a suggestion from disgraced former detective Louis Gannon that one of their former colleagues was the killer.

One thing I really like about this narrator is her ability to do many different voices. There are times as she is narrating it sounds like she gets tickled with what she is reading and it really draws me in to know she is enjoying her work. I love cozy mystery stories and this one did not disappoint. This is like my 2nd book to listen to by this author and I like their style of writing. It is important to pair a great author with a great narrator to draw people into the books. The story line has a sad quality as the main characters mother gave her up for adoption so she never got to know her biological mother until her murder and as the story progresses she learns a lot about the woman that gave her up for adoption and you get a sense of regret because she never tried to get to know her. You get murder, mystery, and add to that a big box store wanting to come into a quaint small town and buy up smaller businesses that shroud it in mystery and suspicion as things begin to happen. This story a short listen but still contained all the components of the stories I love so much. Walt and Maggue buy a decripited mansion and while they are restoring it they set right the curses of the past down to the Indian medical man that set forth the curse. Join them in an amazing story. I really loved this series. Avery Nolan is such a great character. She goes through a lot of trials but never looses who she really is. This is a 4 box set so my review encompasses all the books. This story is about love, compassion, heartbreak, and renewal. The characters are well developed and the narrator does such a great job on all the voices she is performing. There were times I felt like I was really in the story, also, I had trouble putting it down. I think for me the funniest thing in this story is the metal coffin, aka Averys Jeep or any other vehicle. The Aunts, and Duncan coming from a different realm where scared to death riding in a vehicle. It worked so good in the story lines that you actually believed that they were traumatized to be riding. The Aunts characters were so laughable, loveable and just downright ornery. My favorite kind of characters. Avery as a teacher was amazing because she loved each student of their own individuality and did not judge them. I would want her teaching the young minds of my child if she was still that young. She was very tolerant of the trouble makers and instead of judging Bobby Lewis as the other teachers did, she would re-direct him and keep him out of the principles office. Avery is a heroin because she was always willing to put her life at risk to save others. Her students in the fires, Duncan and Bay from the Frostfeld and so forth. She handled situations like most of us would upon initial reactions but when she thought about it, she would do the right thing. Especially when it came to her father. That relationship was tumultuous at best. I love how they overcame the past and moved forward. I was really sad that there was not a magical healing for her mother but understood why that was not going to happen.
Such a well rounded story that held my attention to the very end. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I'm not really into zombies but because I like this narrators style and voice I decided to try it. I was hooked right from the beginning. Normally I don't care for stories with multiple story lines but each story connected so it held my interest. The last chapter was of no interest to me hence the reason it wasn't a full 5 stars. I didn't need the backdrop so to speak. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
