Using something like government for purely political purposes is an idea that is likely to come to a bad end. There are few entities that do that more than the Democratic and Republican parties. It is worth knowing what is being done to you.

Lewis tells a good story often about a complicated and/or unknown subject. The federal government is much criticized and little understood. I thought this was well worth it.

There is always far more actual history in Flashman than expected. This was no different. Because i am American, I prefer the more exotic venues (about which I know far less). Solid offering especially for confirmed Flashy fans.

Totally whacky as always but Skink does not make his first appearance until midway through the book. The endings are becoming more and more wistful for Hiaasen's main character -- Florida before it was ruined.

One does learn something amid Flashy's amorous adventures and the narrator is splendid. I have all of the Flashman series that are available on my wish list but there are two -- 5 and 6 -- that are missing

I like Carl Hiaasen but there can be too much of a good thing. The wacky characters are fun but there were too many. The plot, if any, was difficult to follow. That said the vignettes and descriptions are funny and will be especially popular with guys. I will listen to his next one.
