It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Then the shooters arrived. The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But for those who lived through it, the effects would last forever. But one person wasn't satisfied with the shockingly high death toll at the DownEast Mall. And as the survivors slowly heal, find shelter, and rebuild, they will discover that another conspirator is lying in wait - and this time, there might be nowhere safe to hide.

This is the first Nora Roberts book I have been disappointed with. The plot of the story was promising until I started coming across familiar things. First was McV. Change: 1) it's a married woman cop and not the single male police captain David McV from "High Noon". 2) The hero is mentored by McV. Next, borrowed from "The Search" was 1) The isolated island accessible only by ferry. 2) The villain manipulates 2 people on the ferry to join him so he won't be caught (as a single male traveling to the island alone) by the island police. 3) A female reporter was kidnapped and taken to the island by the villain to write the villain's story then killed. The hero's dog is initially called " dumb ass, dumb ass dog" very reminiscent of DA (dumb ass) the dog in the Boonsboro trilogy. The story is weak. I felt no tension or anticipation leading to the climax of the story. The love story is bland. There was no heat. I did not get invested in the story relationship. I barely noticed when they came together. I was so looking forward to this book to come out....I plan to return it and get my credit back.

When small-town Nebraska sheriff Hixon Drake meets Greta Dare, the connection couldn't be stronger, but the timing couldn't be worse. Dealing with the fallout of a divorce he never wanted and setting up a new home for his kids, Hix becomes that guy, that one he never wanted to be, and puts a stop to things before they can even start. Protecting his kids and himself is his only priority. Greta, on the other hand, has found the place for her and the brother she adores that's perfect for them - a sleepy little town in Nebraska.

Eight weeks ago I signed a contract. It seemed like a good idea at the time: a handsome bachelor, luxury accommodations, and a chance to win a prize my family desperately needed. There were some rules, though - lots of them actually. I had to follow the script and avoid dating, sex, or disclosing the terms of the deal. After my self-imposed moratorium on men last year, it wouldn't be hard to live up to my end of the bargain...or so I thought.

I wasn’t able to finish this story. Here I am at chapter 26 and I still don’t really care about these characters. The premise of this story is ridiculous. No possessive man will go along with this situation. A true romantic heroine will not lead on one man while being with another.

The early part of the story was somewhat painful to listen to. The corny “backwoods country” talk and introduction to the characters was awful. It took multiple chapters to become invested in this story. That said the 1/2 point the story picked up. The third and fourth quarter were really good and I listened straight through. The story wrapped up well and satisfying 😊

Ivan Everley, 13th baron of Rothvale, would admit he's the last person on Earth who should have custody over a priceless collection of art. British law affords him the title of lord, but underneath all the trappings he's just a regular guy, despite being a world champion in archery, and certain...proclivities of a private nature. But Ivan's public celebrity is merely a sham - a carefully guarded secret borne out of the pain of betrayal.

I am so sick of these books that cut off in the middle of the story. It's not really a cliffhanger. With this book it was like the middle of a paragraph. It is a cheap trick to get a reader hooked on a story enough to end up paying triple the cost for a drawn out story that would normally be one book. Well this story is not worth it. And I will no longer buy books form this author.

Ever notice that sometimes a guy will do something really stupid, like let the love of his life slip through his fingers? Yeah. I'm that guy. But the instant I run into her again I've got one goal and one goal only—a second chance. The plan? Go big or go home. Fine, at first glance, stripping naked at my ex-girlfriend's place of work might not seem like the brightest way to win her heart again. But trust me on this count—she always liked me best without any clothes on. And sometimes you've got to play to your strengths when you're fighting an uphill battle.

I usually enjoy LB's books but this one was a disappointment. I almost gave up around chapter 10, but then the sexy play started. I hoped it would pick up, but although it started getting steamy the actual story and corny dialogue did not improve. I finally gave up at chapter 50 and did not even listen to the end. I gave this book 3 stars for the steamy scenes and SY's performance (I would give SY 5 stars to read the newspaper! ). This was not worth the credit...I hope to get mine returned.:(
