Nate Overbay, a former soldier suffering from PTSD and ALS, goes to an 11th-floor bank and climbs out the bathroom window onto the ledge, ready to end it all. But as he’s steeling himself to jump, a crew of gunmen bursts into the bank and begins viciously shooting employees and customers. With nothing to lose, Nate climbs back inside, confronts the robbers, and with his military training, starts taking them out, one by one. The last man standing leaves Nate with a cryptic warning: “He will make you pay in ways you can’t imagine.” Soon enough, Nate learns what this means.

What are Upstanders? Let's start with this: They are the opposite of bystanders. They are problem solvers and protestors, students and parents, professionals and civic leaders. Some fight injustice; others fearlessly challenge the status quo. They are ordinary people who are making extraordinary differences in their communities and beyond. From Salt Lake City to Memphis to Baltimore, Upstanders remind us that participation in civic life has no bounds - and that we can all be the change we wish to see in the world.

These are the kind of stories that encourage creativity, love, fellowship, collaboration and doing what we might think is impossible. We all can learn from the Memphis Pastor who welcomed the Muslim community that moved across the street from his parish.

I highly recommend Upstanders and believe that listening to Seasons 1 & 2 will encourage and/or rekindle our faith in our fellowman.

Drew Danner, a crime novelist with a house off L.A.'s storied Mulholland Drive, awakens in a hospital bed with a scar on his head and no memory of being found convulsing over his ex-fiancee's body the previous night. He was discovered holding a knife, her blood beneath his nails. He himself doesn't know whether he's guilty or innocent. To reconstruct the story, the writer must now become the protagonist, searching the corridors of his life and the city he loves.

A victim killed with a single, precise stab to the heart appears at first glance to be a robbery gone wrong. A caring, upstanding social worker lost to a senseless act of violence. But for Detective Kim Stone, something doesn't add up. When a local drug addict is found murdered with an identical wound, Kim knows instinctively that she is dealing with the same killer. But with nothing to link the two victims except the cold, calculated nature of their death, this could be her most difficult case yet.

What made the experience of listening to Blood Lines the most enjoyable?

Kim Stone has survived a horrific childhood; has dedicated her life to find the perpetrator; is a genius at solving the most perplexing puzzles; and with a talented, responsible, dedicated team, no perpetrator is safe.....but the best part is the mutual love and respect Kim and her team have for each other......and they always gets the bad guy/gal.

What other book might you compare Blood Lines to and why?

I have enjoyed each and every book on Kim Stone and can only say that they get better as the story unfolds.

What does Jan Cramer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

In my opinion, Jan is one of the BEST narrators to date.....she brings life to all the characters in a way that the reader can visualize the story as the writer meant it to unfold!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely, if it hadn't been for the fact that I had to travel the following day, I would have done just that. Instead I woke up early this morning to finish the book....thank you Ms. Marsons.....I love your books!

Any additional comments?

I await the next chapter of Kim Stone and will thoroughly enjoy listening to Jan Cramer tell the story.

Where does Pretty Girls rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Among my suspense and thriller books, I rank Pretty Girls the best. Ms. Slaughter's segue from one storyline to the next keeps the reader waiting anxiously for the next revelation. Personally, this is a favorite form of telling a story and mastering the climatic ending.

What other book might you compare Pretty Girls to and why?

Orphan X....the writers go behind the making of the men/women in the story with riveting insight to the person's psyche. Well researched work.

Have you listened to any of Kathleen Early’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Amazing performance....she kept the characters personas in check and made it easy for the reader to expect the voices to fit the character.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

My extreme reaction to Pretty Girls was the awareness of snuff movies and the reality of such atrocities. How do we STOP the evil that men do? HOW?
