A new town. A new identity. Pregnant and alone. And far away from a past that can never find me. River Wild. Moody. Sullen. Jerk. And my new neighbor. I have no interest in befriending River. And he definitely doesn’t want to be befriended by me. Then, he helps me rescue an abandoned dog. And that day, I see something in his eyes that reflects back in my own. Sadness. Pain. Loneliness. I know all of those things well. An unwanted and unexpected friendship that somehow works. Then, without warning, it turns into something more.

I like the story but parts of it were hard to listen to there are some parts that are disturbing and if anyone has suffered from physical or sexual abuse they may not want to read this book. Beyond that this book is hard to review. I'm glad i listened to it and that is all I can say objectively.

I love that there is not just 1 but 2 beasts. I am fond of love stories, but I love snarky even antagonistic banter. The interaction between characters make them more realistic and relatable. As a reader you become invested in their future and who they are as people. This is a story that I frequently come back to again and again wished I could find it and a hardback copy.

As many of the other reviews have stated this book is hard to stop once you start reading it or in my case listening. The reason why I gave at a solid 4 stars is I find the ending to be up in the air and the only other book involving this one is a prequel. If I knew there was going to be a another book to tie up loose ends I would have probably rated this one a little higher. As far as the performance goes I think there should have been 2 females narrators or a narrator that could change their voice. I got lost several times and had to re listen to it not knowing which leading female character was speaking at the time.

It was a bit of a stretch for me! I know it's not Fifty Shades of Grey, but it's hard not to compare one book to another when it comes to the same author. It was a good love story. I just find it extremely hard to believe that a woman that was trying to escape an abusive family, betrothal and ended up in sex trafficking would fall in love with a man and all of it in the matter of weeks.

As far as the performance goes I love that they had both male and female reader.
