This book is amazing. It has changed my life. It is the missing piece I have been searching for. It really explains everything I have been feeling, but have been unable to get out. I absolutely recommend this book. That said, the narrator is really as bad as the other reviews state. There is a man and a woman. That is a nice idea. But, the woman's voice especially is like a monotone forced voice that is horrible. I am so into the content that I don't let it get to me. I imagine they were trying to save money maybe by not getting professionals. For as many people who would benefit and would be buying this book that is literally life saving, I wish they would have gotten professional readers. They remind me of kids that have to read in a school program and are incredibly nervous.

Over his decades of experience as a therapist and mindfulness meditation practitioner, Dr. Christopher Germer has learned a paradoxical lesson: We all want to avoid pain, but letting it in and responding compassionately to our own imperfections are essential steps on the path to healing. This wise and eloquent book illuminates the power of self-compassion and offers creative, scientifically grounded strategies for putting it into action.

So many of us spend so much time enmeshed in other people's problems, trying to solve or change them, that we don't really know where we end and they begin. Not reacting to people or situations that provoke us is not an easy skill to develop. It takes practice and conviction that not reacting, not increasing the drama, doesn't mean we don't care. On the contrary, we are freed to show genuine love and care only when we can detach from the knee-jerk need to fix, solve, rescue, or control.

This is for sure the best book on this subject I have ever read. It is a series of short essays. Each one is a bite size lesson. You can listen to several or just one a day. The reader is perfect. Just the right pace, tone and compassion. I was missing a piece in my Al-Anon work. This was it. It explains detachment with love better than any other. It doesn't have to be for those in 12 step work. It can be for anyone who wants more peace and to love unconditionally themselves and others. I wish I could give it ten stars

I bought this based on the great reviews. I don't know what I'm missing because I did not like it at all. It is her giving a lecture. It is VERY dry. She repeats everything so many times I got bored. I got nothing out of it. I guess I don't understand what I am not hearing that everyone else seems to be getting.

Each chapter contains a reflection on a quotation from AA. Conference-approved literature, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, As Bill Sees It, and other books. This is a very in-depth story of the author ‘s Buddhist and 12 step recovery journey. I have two other books by him. I don’t know why, but the delivery of this one was a bit flat. Not as passionate a voice as others. He goes into much more personal detail. He relates the steps to all addictive behaviors, not drugs and alcohol only. This book is just awesome. I bought the physical book after this audiobook because I want to reference it daily. I highly recommend this book!

This is the most modern audio version of the Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book. The second edition of the seminal work of Alcoholics Anonymous, The Big Book, was released in 1955 and continues to be extremely influential in the lives of so many addicts. The basic text of the Big Book contained in this audiobook remains unchanged and is still used in the program to this day!

This book is just awesome! The author narrates. He has a gentle, calm voice. It’s like your closest friend is sitting with you having a heart to heart. Never “preachy” or condescending. He tells his story with sincerity. This is a book that is about Buddhism, but more about the 12 steps. You do not have to be Buddhist to gain a lot from this book. The main focus is mindfulness and right thinking and action and consequences. I absolutely loved it and bought several more of his books after this one!!

His style, his enthusiasm, his love for his work and his obvious connection with Angels. I got this as an audiobook and loved it so much and wanted to be able to use it as a workbook that I purchased the physical book. I’d give it a million stars if I could
