First, there isn't a better narrator than January Lavoy - no matter how many characters, she has the different voice. I make my reading choices from the books that use her as a narrator. This woman could read a phone book and it would sound great! The description of this island makes me want to move to the west coast & find that place!

Slow start, too much teenage drama details. I figured the "story" would start at the shooting and it did. The I couldn't stop listening - I do a lot of listening when driving so I came up with lots of excuses to take rides!

I enjoyed the romance and appreciate that NR didn't put in too many details in the love scenes. Just enough to make the listener know exactly what was going on.

Well worth the read!

Only half way through & I'm thoroughly enjoying this story. The narrator is great - I feel like I'm having coffee with Glen and he's telling me what he lived through... except for this one thing that really, really irks me. After about 6 months living with this amazonian woman who's never seen a civilized human being, he's taught her a vocabulary that exceeds many civilized people. The writer should have been more realistic here... she uses words (correctly too), like "vengeance", "explain to me", "don't you understand", "didn't, shouldn't, wouldn't, couldn't" etc. This makes the story almost a comedy.... especially how the narrator uses a strange accent - all the while using correct tense & pronunciation. My 2 cents...

I usually just listen to my audio books as I'm driving but not this one. Binged! The story is riveting and the ending is a total surprise - even to me that always figures out the "twist". The reader(s) are amazing, especially Sophia Amoss. If you like suspense thrillers, this one is a must! Some violence and gory descriptions but the author doesn't dwell on that - just makes the scene come to life.

What follows in the years after a nuclear war?

If all human life is not destroyed with a nuclear war, what kind of society do survivors have to look forward to? This is horror at its best considering what reality could be. I wish McCammon would included solid religious characters to demonstrate why we will always have hope. The narrator is amazing - I felt like I was listening to a movie! His voice changed with the characters - very much appreciated!

I'd read this book when it originally came out years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. At that time in my life I was very much into horror & science fiction and this book certainly catered to those likings! Now, more than 30 years later, I have to admit that I needed to fast forward over some of the descriptions!

I read this book when it came out years ago. It changed my life! I bought 10 copies & gave them away - I thought everyone should read it! Although Catholic with a good knowledge of my faith, I couldn't wrap my mind around "heaven".. how can someone be happy & content ALL THE TIME!!! Mr. DeStefano has a way with words - simple yet thought provoking and backed up by scripture. I learned most importantly that not everyone goes to heaven.. our time on earth is the only time we have to pave our way to eternity! Our time here is just a drop in the vast universe - I'm spending the rest of my life preparing for the final destination!
