I don’t recall ever writing a review here despite listening to hundreds of books a year. It’s 1am here now as I write this. I have to be up for work at 5:45am. I am not looking forward to that. This book is 50% good and 100% great. That’s how percents work right?

During the early plot development it was a good book. One like so many others I listen to while doing other stuff. Then around the mid point, this would have been hours ago now when I thought to myself oh no way I am going to bed without finishing this, the book turns a corner and becomes something especially special. It’s gripping right to the very end. Like so very few other books it became something I felt I couldn’t, shouldn’t and wouldn’t want to do anything else while listening to. It crossed the that divide of being something I was enjoying to being something that was effecting me. It will certainly stick with me for some time to come.
Thanks Audible for the random recommendation and to those first few reviews take made me think this would be something I might like. Also too now that I think of it, thanks to audible for having an easy return policy that allows me to take chances on books and authors that I might not have otherwise.

Well done Lisa Jewell, l’ll not think less of you for robbing me of sleep tonight. This was an excellent book.

A masterful, intensely suspenseful novel about a reader whose obsession with a reclusive writer goes far too far - a book about the power of storytelling, starring the same trio of unlikely and winning heroes King introduced in Mr. Mercedes. "Wake up, genius." So begins King's instantly riveting story about a vengeful reader. The genius is John Rothstein, an iconic author who created a famous character, Jimmy Gold, but who hasn't published a book for decades.

Adam rips parenthood a new one, telling it straight about what adults must do if they don't want to have to support their kids forever. Using his own crappy childhood as a cautionary tale, and touting the pitfalls of the kind of helicopter parenting so pervasive today, Daddy, Stop Talking is the only parenting book you should ever read.

The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

Audie Award, Audiobook of the Year, 2016. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. "Jess and Jason," she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost. And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good? Compulsively readable, The Girl on the Train is an emotionally immersive, Hitchcockian thriller and an electrifying debut.
