The story lacks internal integrity, and while the main male character is masterfully developed the female one isn't so.
Gardner's narration is excellent.

This is a story about a man who dared to dream and explore, who treated his life as good sport and made them a work of art. He also appears to be a real nice guy, with a tremendous sense of humor, and a real gift for capturing people and situations into words. It was a great read, and now I just want to have a pint with Bruce. Yeah, I know, there's a line.

Wilde's bittersweet legends are filled with beauty, gentle humor, and human and social themes. Fry's reading is spectacular.
The only problem is that the last second or so of every story is cut off.

While the story in itself is nice enough, it is pretty predictable and the very example of the genre. But OH, the narration. Armitage's reading is perfect. The characters come to full, vivid life, the prose is on the spot - be it emotinal, descriptional, or humorous. Too bad it can only get 5 stars.

I know how much of a classic this is, but Three Men is a tedious book. There is nothing I like about it. Laurie's narration is, however, fantastic. The peak was the gloomy, forlorn performance of "two black eyes". I actually giggled, at long last.

Tolkien was not only a great author and a poet, but also a fantastic translator. The poems are lovely and powerful, filled with the perilous magical atmosphere of myth. Terry Jones is absolutely perfect. Had I been to King Arthur's court, I'd persuade Arthur to leave that Grail nonsense aside, and just listen to Jones.
