Despite protests and warnings from friends and family, author Madeleine L’Engle, at the age of seventy-four, embarked on a rafting trip to Antarctica. Her journey through the startling beauty of the continent led her to write Penguins and Golden Calves, a captivating discussion of how opening oneself up to icons, or everyday “windows to God,” leads to the development of a rich and deeply spiritual faith.

Madeleine L Engle is best known dipe A Wrinkle In Time but she is wiser and more profound in her non fiction books although many will criticize her views today. This was well thought out but still down to earth and witty and warm and it will give you answers and possibilities to many questions of faith. It is almost required reading for any Christian on a journey of faith who is open minded and truly seeking God in a real and personal way. L'Engel's wisdom and spiritual intellect really come thru in the narration of this book and several others I've read. I'd be interested to hear her read all of L'Engle's books on faith. It seems she is able to understand and channel the author's dry wit and ability to laugh at herself just as well as her deep thoughts and serious concepts.

The format of the books are pretty similar but they are good interesting listens. I didn't like this one as well as the others but I do like the characters as portrayed by this reader. You can tell whose talking without it being cartoon voices. That's the difference between a real narrative and author's reading their own books. Ugh.

This is a book that will take you into the Christmas season in the way you should enter it. Contemplative but also down to earth and full of the author's commonsense ideas. Good and fascinating thoughts about Christ and how the God- made- flesh is relevant to today.

The narration was contemplative in itself but also warmly humorous. Sitting down with a wise friend and talking about things that matter. Excellent audiobook. I will listen to the rest of L'engels audiobooks by this narrator. The one narrated by the author herself was just awful. Very glad that she went with a professional.

This was a warm and funny book that took an unusual look at peoples' troubles Is the writer falling in love with her handsome lead character? Confusing fiction with failures of life? A real book with real characters reflecting all the heartbreak and disappointment life can bring, but finding that there is always a presence to share your burdens with. This has really funny moments and really sad moments, but you can really hear the emotions in the women, especially, but the reader made the men real, too. And finally somebody who has figured out that all the men don't have to have deep voices. Almand carries the personalities really well and you can even tell which of about a dozen women are talking! Warm and uplifting in the end.

Pamela Almand just does a great job of doing this and I hope that the author does more with Marcy and her family and that Miss Almand reads them all. I will listen to them all and want to listen to the first one, too.

The author has a warm heart and really loves animals and the reader does to. You can tell! The stories are true and the information about farm shelters is really good, too. This is probably good for middle school kids or to be read to little kids, too.

Not only building an income stream but managing it to eventually lead to real passive income. The charts and figures are excellent and the reader's excitement for the strategies makes it interesting to learn more about how to get there and achieve financial maturity.

Where does A Wrinkle in Time rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The story was strange and wonderful but the narration...not so much

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Wrinkle in Time?

The description of Camazotz and It were really evocative

Did the narrators do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

No. I did not like the narrator's choices for the children's voices in particular.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The message behind the words was just great, but you had to concentrate in the audiobook to get it.
