FBI agent Harmony Black and her team, Vigilant Lock, face a new type of threat: one from beyond the stars. They'd always heard the Red Knight was an urban legend: in 1954, three years before Sputnik launched, a mysterious satellite was sighted circling Earth, though no power on the planet had such technology.

Amazingly enough, Hunter keeps Jane fresh in this installment of Jane's story. Evolving as a character, Jane progresses toward family.... A unit that fulfills and sustains her as she battles monsters. Sigh.... Counting down the months until I get to share her journey again.

The cold, precise Duke of Montford demands things his way: neatly ordered, in place, and adhering closely to the rules. So he is furious when he learns that the tenant of his ducal estate has been dead for a year, and a stranger has been running the Honeywell business - which, by contract, is now Montford's. When he arrives in Yorkshire to investigate, he discovers that the estate is being run by an unruly, tomboyish woman - and a bluestocking at that!

What a delightful find! Dare I compare the author to the queen of regency romance, Georgette Heyer? Absolutely! But with her own panache for humor and a humanized cast of characters who mature and evolve throughout the novel. I will look for more art from this talented authoress.

The author did a great job of setting up a great storyline with compelling characters. The sexy business was smokin' and both lead characters showed charm and wit. I loved when h deflated the H profound life-isms by saying, "Fortune Cookie." However, the end was so abrupt with so many unresolved issues that I was left staring at my phone, thinking there must be some technical malfunction. Alas, no. Some publishing guru probably advised the author to stretch the book into multiple books. However, there isn't a clear resolution or even a cliffhanger. More of a, 'let's cut the story off here and continue in another book." Nevertheless, the listen was good enough to warrant a credit and a shot at the next book in the series. I hope this pattern does not continue for this talented author. This was a fresh take on MC romance that I'd like to see more of.

The British narrator speaking at light speed ruined a story that might have been salvageable. Occurring in America's northwest, the English accent completely threw the thin storyline of werewolves coexisting in our urban reality. The speed of the narration matched the storytelling where I was forced to question, 'two weeks passed and the emotional development is static. I might've been able to suspend belief if I could live with the narration. Alas, I couldn't even finish it.

Loaded with puerile mind-chatter, absolutely yawn-worthy smex and a limited storyline, this is a marketing ploy with no substance. The plot is so thin in between, graphic and boring sex scenes, I forced myself to finish the listen. Sophomoric vocabulary, crap research ( when does a hospital release someone from surgery and 20 minutes later say the person will be 'fine?') and one week after a gsw, pacing, able to strap into a seatbelt and accept full hugs. Not worth credit or sale.

Don't get me wrong - I love KC's writing and the worlds she creates. I work in an Indie bookstore and prop the Arcana Chronicles like the paranormal floozy I am. But, honestly, looking at the publishing schedule and the length of the books, we know the trilogy could be wrapped into one delicious read. But the math works like this: one $20+ audiobook discounted to under $10 in less than a year. Or 3 audios released over two months with the discounted price netting almost $15.
It's only her recent books that have pushed the $16 to $20 mark and we all try use credits on those. No way would we waste a credit on $4.61 audio. So all the middlemen are making more money at the expense of the consumer and the needy characters who want their story completed in one book.
Will I buy the rest of the series? Absofloozy! But I tend to shy away from overt marketing ploys with other books and have written KC about my concerns with this series. Maybe she'll tell the gurus she was nucking futs to agree to this capitalization and it won't happen again.
