In this Audible Exclusive production, Academy Award® nominee Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) narrates one of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Sense and Sensibility. In this timeless tale of misguided romance and heartbreak, two teenage heroines must overcome the pitfalls of Georgian England’s high society in order to achieve the love and happiness they seek. The admiration that Pike has for Austen’s work is shown clearly through this passionate delivery of Austen’s first published novel.

Leo Tolstoy's classic story of doomed love is one of the most admired novels in world literature. Generations of readers have been enthralled by his magnificent heroine, the unhappily married Anna Karenina, and her tragic affair with dashing Count Vronsky.

Where does Anna Karenina rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This audiobook is clear and away #1 - the best so far.

What other book might you compare Anna Karenina to and why?

Crime and Punishment

What about Maggie Gyllenhaal’s performance did you like?

Everything - her passion for the material was obvious and her delivery, especially given the diversity of characters and difficult Russian names, was truly masterful - I don't know of anyone who could have done it better, not even close!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No chance - to the contrary. It was one I was happy to have the opportunity to listen to unabridged over an extended period (during many workday commutes and countless hours in airports and on planes).

Any additional comments?

This experience was well above the bar I typically set for audiobook performances - if possible to give an Oscar for an audiobook, Ms. Gyllenhaal's performance would be tough, if not impossible, to beat. I do not know what she regards as her second most favorite literary classic, but whatever that title is, I hope she will perform it for Audible.
