In July 1972, Deputy Sheriff Gerard Schaefer picked up two teenage girls, Pamela Wells (17) and Nancy Trotter (18), who were hitchhiking to a local beach. He told them it was illegal to hitchhike in the area and that he would take them back to safety. He lied. Schaefer took them to a remote wooded area where he drew his gun, tied them up, gagged them, and looped nooses around their necks. Schaefer received a call on his police radio and had to leave the girls, but he vowed to return and finish what he’d started.

This was a very scary case , and I found it difficult to put the book down so I could go to sleep at night. On top of that I had a hard time making it thru the next day as I anticipated the next listening session. Amazing how this monster avoided detection for so long and fooled so many, truly sad how mental health has been viewed in the past and how so many have not been fully diagnosed to avoid the horrific crimes as this ..
The narration brought this story vividly to the forefront of the mind.

If you like true crime this is a must listen..!

"Each time I start a new Robert Thornhill story, I don't think it can get better, but it does. Another hit, in this edition Jerry get slipped a Mickey .. A bad drug called Devil’s Breath (scopolamine)which is very bad , it makes they person basically hypnotized and under the mind control , but not able to remember what you have done , and it's practically untraceable.! Tis is bad news for Walt and the gage but even worse for the drug pushers when Walt and and company figure it out and lock them up!! My favorite characters are back. This is a series that once I start the book, I don't want to put it down until I'm finished. Looking forward to the next one."
