She-wolf Janna Macks knows trouble when she sees it, especially when it comes in the form of an irresistibly broody cowboy like Cole Harper. Her fledgling pack is already in the cross hairs of a ruthless group of rogues, and falling head over heels in lust with a human will only endanger her loved ones more. Welcome to the Blue Moon Saloon where clan and pack unite much to the rogue Blue Bloods’ consternation. A rogue purity movement has no place messing with destined mates.

Cole Harper is all that defines Temptation for Janna Macks… smooth dancer, brooding good looks and rugged cowboy hotness but the temptation is all this human cowboy can be for the sweet she-wolf. Then fate takes a hand in Cole’s destiny and Janna’s temptation becomes so much more than she ever dreamed possible. When this fun loving she-wolf discovers her rugged cowboy is on the cusp of a dangerous change she’ll do whatever it takes to ensure her mate survives the ordeal.

Temptation is narrated by Kelsey Osborne. She does an awesome job. I’m seriously looking forward to listening to further stories in the Blue Moon Saloon series. If you like great paranormal romance that features wolves and bears where danger is always waiting in the wings you’re going to love this series.

In Damnation the reader is introduced to Jessica and Janna Macks, two she-wolves on the run from the brutal decimation of their pack and the neighboring bear clan. At wit’s end, they are extended safe haven by the local wolf pack. You might recall this pack from Ms. Lowe’s Wolves of Twin Moon Ranch series. Safe haven, however, comes with a hitch. Living and working with the ex might be too much for the average gal but this is one she-wolf up to the task. While Simon is still all she ever wanted in a mate, Jess won’t be giving Simon a free pass anytime soon. Nope, it’s going to cost this bear another walk through hell as he fights to keep his mate safe from pursuing rogues while hoping love comes with second chances.

What drew me to this story in the first place was the dystopian setting and the BDSM romance aspects indicated in the blurb as well as the narrator. I enjoyed the narration. The narrator has great voice inflection that kept me coming back to finish this story even when I may not have if I had been reading it myself.

I have taken some time to think about why the story itself irked me on occasion considering I do enjoy BDSM romance. I can't say that it is the non-consensuality because this is the basis of slavery, to begin with, and a given in the context of this storyline. So, I didn't have that as an expectation. I don't believe it was the actual punishments either even when I thought they were at times unrealistic. I believe what rubbed me in various parts of the story were the humiliation aspects. I know though from experience that humiliation actually does trip some submissives triggers. Needless to say, it's not my cup of tea whether from the giving or receiving end.

All that being said, the story is well written and the narration was excellent. Had the story not tripped a few of my own personal triggers I would have enjoyed it much more.

This past week (9/6/16) I decided to set aside all the ARCs I had and read new releases by a few of my favorite authors. So the second book I have to share with you is Illusion Town by Jayne Castle aka Jayne Ann Krentz. Another author that is pretty much on the auto-buy list. So when I found the new releases in a few of my favorite series I just had to get them. I just so happened to get the audio versions as well and totally enjoyed reading along.

Illusion Town is the latest in the Harmony series. When Elias Coppersmith and Hannah West wake up from a psi burn and discover they are married and have no recollection of the event it leads them on one wild goose chase to discover why. These two off the charts talents have been courting each other for months online and now their first real time meeting ends in a run for their lives, amnesia, and marriage. Things continue to become more and more exciting as the story proceeds. Ms. Castle/Krentz is exceptional at romantic suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

If you have a chance be sure to get the audio version and read along. The performance is great.

I started reading Sherrilyn Kenyon with the start of her Dark-Hunter series before it was known as that. I absolutely loved Fantasy Lover and each of the books that followed. Of course, as most readers do, I went looking for the author’s backlist and discovered her original books in The League series. Each and every one of the stories in this series has captured my heart with the exceptional heroes and heroines Ms. Kenyon creates.

In her latest release, Born of Legend readers of the series will find themselves falling in absolute love with the sorely maligned Jullien eton Anatole, disinherited prince of the Andarian empire and repeatedly an enemy of the other heroes in the series. While Jullien will be the first to claim himself a totally contentious asshole you’ll discover this is one brand of asshole any woman would be proud to have in her life. Now living under the guise of Dagger Ixur, the bogeyman of the Andarian people, he lives his life on the run from a Thrill-Kill order on his life made by his very own grandmother. In what he thinks is his last living moments in life he chooses to take a stand and rescue a young Andarian boy from slavery. With one selfless act, he finds himself adopted into the Tavali nation and under the spell of the boy’s widowed mother, Ushara.

In Ushara’s loving embrace he finds the first love he has ever known in his life. He finds family and community.

Ms. Kenyon is one author that is on my auto-buy list. When an author can take one of the villains of the series and turn him around and make him a hero you adore I say total kudos. If you haven’t read it yet, I would highly recommend it. Oh and just a side note… I purchased the audible version as well as the ebook and read along. The narrator does a darned good job!

Rescued by a Highlander was the debut novel for Ms. Montclair. It has since been revised. By the time I came upon it, it had also been put into audio format. I have to tell you that the narrator, Mr. Antony Ferguson made it a very enjoyable experience. I do so love a narrator that is exceptional at producing first notch voices that give the characters real life and personality. Of course, it doesn’t hurt when that actor does a great job at a Scottish brogue. Ummm, I so love a nice brogue. All that being said you have to have a good story, to begin with. In the case of Rescued by a Highlander you have a very honorable Scottish Laird rescuing the step sister of a neighboring Laird when he witnesses the brutal abuse she is being subjected to.

Madeline has been brutalized and abused by her stepbrother since her parent's deaths. Yet she remains innocent, sweet and obedient… well in all things except taking Laird Niles Cummings as a husband. Having already been raped by the brute with her brother’s permission, Maddie has no wish to saddle herself with such a foul and cruel husband. Things are heating up and becoming rather deadly when Maddie is rescued by Laird Alexander Grant. As gentle as Alex can appear he is also gruff and loud. Is it any wonder that Maddie thinks her only hope of salvation is a convent?

Laird Alexander Grant is the very definition of honorable. He stands for everything protective, honest, sincere and loving when it comes to the women in his life. Seeing the brutalized Lady Madeline goes against every teaching of his venerable parents. So when he receives a message requesting his interference on her behalf, Alex jumps in to rescue the lass. But now that he has rescued her, what’s he to do with her? On one hand, she is the very definition of strength and on the other, her experiences with men have left her untrusting and cringing in expectation of more brutality. Sometimes rescuing someone is a lot more involved than removing them from danger. And sometimes a man cannot help but fall in love along the way.

Rescued by a Highlander is a great beginning to the Clan Grant series. If you get a chance definitely consider purchasing the Whyspersync Audible version with the ebook for full enjoyment. I’ll warn you in advance that the Audible version does deviate slightly from the ebook version. All in all, though, the audio version is excellent. If you love a good historical Highlander romance with a bit of danger and intrigue in the mix you should enjoy Rescued by a Highlander.

The game he plays is deep, the stakes are high, he is the master at this game of deception, but what other way is there to play when the survival of your species and your very mate is at stake. One moment you will wonder at his genius then next you’ll question his very sanity, but that is no more than he’s been doing himself for years, ever since he left a young Cat after swearing revenge on the young girl that saved his life and irrevocably tied them together and insured his forays into madness. He’s been many years without his mate. She’s been hidden beneath the veil of tribal magic. Now the veil is lifted and it’s just a matter of time before he claims her permanently. The question is… does he want his revenge or does he want his mate? Who is her mate? Is he Gideon? Is he G? or perhaps his latest incarnation as Graeme? No matter the face he shows the world, he’s managed to accrue his chits and grown quite a loyal following. Makes it just a bit difficult for the poor Jonas to pin him down.

I think up until Gideon I had thought one of the most intriguing characters created by Ms. Leigh was Jonas. I would be very hard pressed to choose after a Bengal’s Quest. Can I just say wow? Talk about a very complex character. And for such a complex alpha male you better believe you’ll get a similarly complex heroine. You’d have to be a rather complex woman if you had a resident ghost co-inhabiting your body.

Thirteen years ago a group of Native American shaman performed a ritual transforming her from Fawn into Claire, a recently deceased girl from the tribe. A bit of plastic surgery had her living the lie for years. But unlike her friend Honor, Fawn never lost herself in the new identity. She didn’t end up in a loving, nurturing family. Instead, she ended up in the care of a traitor. And while Fawn may have been her legal name, it wasn’t really her either. She was Cat. She was G’s creation, a Bengal waiting to emerge. Her life was a ticking time bomb waiting for revenge to happen. She was also on the genetic councils most wanted list.

I have totally loved this series from the very beginning. I wait impatiently for each new release. This time, I did something a little different. I decided to get the audible edition and listen while I read along. I can tell you that Brianna Bronte does an awesome job narrating. She has a great range in her voice and excellent skills in expressing the characters. Again I was totally awed by the skills of Ms. Leigh. I can’t wait to read To Wake a Sleeping Tiger.

So has anyone told you about the nice Whispersync for Voice, Audible Narration? Well if you haven’t heard of it, let me tell you it’s wonderful. Remember those days when you would listen to bedtimes stories, or maybe a teacher or librarian that would read aloud to you? Well, I’m betting they aren’t as good as some of the voice actors that present the unabridged versions of books that are available. Wolf Troubles just happens to be one of them. In fact, all of the books in this series are available in Whispersync. It’s great because you can either just listen to the story, follow along as it’s read or switch back and forth. The other great thing is that the price is majorly reduced when you buy the Whispersync version to go with the book rather than as just an audible file. Wolf Trouble is narrated by Abby Craden. She did a superb job and her voice modulation skills rock.

Wolf Trouble has been on my list to buy since before it came out and I hadn’t been able to get to it. Then I found out the third in the series was coming out. It put me in panic mode because I wasn’t caught up with the second let alone third coming out. You can guess what I did… I hurried and bought Wolf Trouble… then I stayed up all night listening to it. Was it worth the all-nighter? Oh, most definitely. I mean what’s not to love? Hot, hunky SWAT officers that just happen to be alpha wolf shifters? Check. Feisty alpha females that are more than enough to give said alpha’s a run for their money? Check. Bullets flying, action and suspense mounting, heroic rescues, reprehensible criminals and dirty cops stirring up trouble… Check, check, check… well, you get the picture. All of this before you get to the building sexual tension and scorching hot love making. Needless to say, I’m a bit addicted to stories of this nature.

Wolf Trouble is the story of what happens when the city of Dallas decides the best SWAT team in the country isn’t politically correct because it doesn’t have its requisite female officer. I mean forget whether the female is truly qualified or that hiring someone that doesn’t fit not only put every other officer’s life at risk but those they serve as well. Lord save us from the bureaucrats and lawyers running city hall. The one saving grace? The pack alpha, Gage has had his eye on a gal he suspects is a werewolf like the rest of them for a while now. Looks like his timeline just got moved ahead a bit.

Xander has absolutely no problem dealing with a woman on his team, especially if she is in fact, a werewolf like the rest of them… that is until Khaki Blake shows up in his squad room. One long whiff of Khaki and Xander knows he’s in trouble. Her allure is overwhelming. What’s a guy to do when getting involved with your subordinate is totally off limits? Why, give her hell of course. Hell being the cold shoulder, extra intense and demanding training and whatever else he can throw at her. The only problem? She’s good, damned good and that allure is just getting stronger.

Khaki Blake knew she wanted to be a cop from the time she was ten-years-old. She’s a damned good patrol cop too! Lately though things have gotten a bit out of hand. One nasty as get out ex-lover and her world turns upside down. Backup is non-existent and she keeps ending up in sticky situations. The kind of sticky where her blood keeps getting spilled. But something strange is going on because now she’s healing at astronomical rates and her speed and strength have grown unbelievably as well. To say she is a little clueless to what is going on is to put it mildly. Then her life turns around on a dime. Sargent Gage shows up in Washington state to recruit her for the Dallas SWAT team. If that isn’t shocking enough, he tells her she’s a werewolf. All things considered, though, there is a ring of truth to his words.

With one wolf being stubborn and too pig headed to realize what’s going on with his hormones and the other too new to have a clue, it takes these two a while to get together. In the meantime, the sexual tension between the two is threatening to burn them down. All that aside they still have to deal with the very real concern of chain of command and fraternization. Oh and did I mention the very real threat of crazies and criminals added to the mix. In the end they’re faced with the question… mate? Pack? Career? Is there really a choice to be made?

I really like Ms. Tyler’s Special Wolf Alpha Team and I’m sure you will as well. Wolf Trouble had just the blend of action, adventure, suspense, romance, and sex I was looking for. I’m really looking forward to reading In the Company of Wolves which comes out on December 1st.
