This was one of those relax & enjoy the ride mysteries. You could easily do paperwork or household chores or even nap through a hour without losing too much of the story. It kept one’s interest, but not in a nail-biting or cliff-hanging way. Easy pace. Easy listen.

No swearing. Subject of rape did surface.

My 2nd Harlan Coben novel. An excellent mystery. Perfectly presented. 5 stars in all categories.

The narrator’s are very understandable. The book is too s-l-o-w. I skipped to the end to see if it redeemed the story or justified such a boring slow pace. For me it did not. I wasted 2 hours and am returning the book.

I’ve enjoyed Meltzer’s shows, but never imagined his books would be this good. I thought the plot, characters, narrative, and dialogue were all excellent. I bought the next 2 books in the culper ring series.

The narrator was also excellent!

I read the kindle ebook with the audio book. I’m new to supernatural themes, but an avid mystery buff. The character development was excellent. The plot held my interest for several hours. The story had a satisfying ending. I would consider reading this author again.

I had issues with the narrator’s. At times, Alice’s voice seemed overly dramatic & too slow. Nathan’s voice was pleasing & warm, but way too slow. In order to keep my attention, I had to play Audible at 1.25 & 1.5. This would be fine except it so hard to get to the controls when you are reading the ebook.

This novel held your interest and had a lot of action. It had just the right amount of characters to keep it interesting, but not so much that you got lost. You could multi task with minor chores, like dusting, mopping or cleaning a pantry, but not with chores that require more attention like sorting paperwork or paying bills.

The narrator was excellent. He spoke clearly and loudly and his character voices were well done. He reminds me of another excellent narrator R C Bray. Both remind me of Humphrey Bogart, and both are very gifted narrator’s.

The narrator and the novel are great for driving in the car. The narrator is clear enough to easily be heard over the sounds of highway driving.

The book has a decent plot and should have been completed in one book. I was aggravated that the story was going to drag on for another 2 books. I will not be buying books 2 or 3. ( Had the set been bundled like the 4 novel set “Black”, I would probably have listened to books 2 & 3.) However, at the conclusion of book 1, I was pretty much done being interested in the characters or their future fate.

I listened to this story at 1.25 & 1.50 because the narrator sounded better at a faster pace. The overemphasis was not as noticeable.

This is a good book to do your mail or sort your paperwork. It doesn’t require constant attention. This is also a good book for noisy environments. The narrator is quite loud so it is a good book for car, train, or airplane.

I’ve liked other books by this author, in this series. I tried 2x, a month apart to get interested in this book. I just couldn’t get interested. The author spent over 45 minutes just describing very uninteresting political characters and parties/events. I will try other books by this author. Really wanted to give this book a fair shake. It just wasn’t like other Cad Bolton books by this author.
