As others have mentioned, the narration is sometimes halting and the use of verbal descriptors for punctuation symbols (parentheses, end parentheses, quotation mark, bullet point, etc) are distracting and unnecessary, however I thought the content overall was useful.
I'm a little disappointed in a technique he describes as integral to his success in treating patients with ADHD which he later notes that he regrets he can't teach us in a book. I was waiting with some suspense for that element and when it was never really dealt with, except to refer the reader to a local specialist, it was a bit of a let down.

This book really helped simplify the ideas of the Tao, Buddhist/Zen theory with a sometimes too Christian slant. Enlightening. I did not like the narrator though.

Ephram Jennings has never forgotten the beautiful girl with the long braids running through the piney woods of Liberty, their small East Texas town. Young Ruby, “the kind of pretty it hurt to look at,” has suffered beyond imagining, so as soon as she can, she flees suffocating Liberty for the bright pull of 1950s New York. Ruby quickly winds her way into the ripe center of the city - the darkened piano bars and hidden alleyways of the Village - all the while hoping for a glimpse of the red hair and green eyes of her mother.

I love this way of thinking for creative people. I didn't even realize I was buying in to the "tortured artist soul" myth until I listened to this book. I can now embrace the idea of interacting with my creativity in a more positive and less damaging way. It has allowed me to demand less from my creativity in order to get more from it.

Now, with his brilliant portrait of Luce, a young woman who inherits her murdered sister’s troubled twins, Frazier has created his most memorable heroine. Before the children, Luce was content with the reimbursements of the rich Appalachian landscape....
