Horatia Sheridan has been hopelessly in love with Lucien, her brother's best friend, ever since he rescued her from the broken remains of her parents' wrecked carriage. His reputation as London's most notorious rakehell doesn't frighten her, for under his veneer of cool authority she has glimpsed a man whose wicked desires inspire her own.

I really wanted to give this author a second chance after book one and I'm glad I did. The characters are well suited and without abusive tendancy's. I still hate the first hero and am glad I barely heard of him in this book. I don't know what the author was trying to do with a character like Godrick, but Lucien did not disappoint. He proved to me he wasn't a selfish careless or abusive male and really did want to make his love happy. He deserves a good match in the heroine he finally gives in to. I will read on to see if the other characters redeem themselves after helping "hero" #1 Godrick ruin a girl and humiliate her over and over for the fun and control of it. He never redeems himself of any of it and his friends went along with it with barely a word against his actions. He says he feels bad later, but still did nothing to deserve his heroine. I have tried to put that aside and give the other members a chance to see if they warrant a chance and so far Lucien is nothing like Godrick. The others seem different as well. Maybe their actions was a wake up call of sorts, but never accentuated as such. This will hopefully show me more improvement as the rest of these men prove if they are even worth the trouble.

I gave this book a chance as I thought the group would later show a reason for helping "his grace" ruin a young girl for his own gain. I don't believe the author gave me enough of a reason to forgive his actions or his friends for helping him. The humiliation she endured over and over was so cringe worthly and yet the story went on like it should be expected. If this is a period piece, am I to assume women were made to endure this treatment and be ok with it? She was the butt of all jokes and it was expected that she should just let them do it. That if she freaked out on them that she was the crazy person. I want to hit every single one of them. That treatment was abusive and yet even in the end it was she that wanted to make the hero feel better.... WhatThe Hell? She deserves better! So much better!!! I felt for him and how his father treated him in the past, but he did nothing to show me he deserved her. Even at the end he was so caught up in himself and what he didn't get to go his way that she had to face the horrors alone. When he finally showed up he lashed out not for grief, but because something he loved was taken from him. How the hell is this called love? His love his conditional. If it goes his way he will be good. If not she has to pick up the pieces. What a crappy hero! This is the first romance novel I have ever wanted to see have a sequel so the hero dies and she finds a better love. He does not deserve her.

The story is very entertaining and much more true to form then most supernatural fiction. I enjoy a good mystery and history lessons thrown in as they make sure I keep learning a thing or two everytime I read. The characters have charm and are inviting. I enjoy the narrators use of a light southern accent that is not too over the top to annoy the listener. It felt like a comfort read. This was just my type of book!

I reviewed this and the first in this series for my teenage kids. I have to admit that there are a few times the Heroine swears like a pirate which was a shock at first, but in context is more understandable. I would still allow my children to read it and reiterate the importance caution if they ever decide to use such language. It is a good story and yet reserved enough for the younger generations. I would enjoy sharing this story with others.

This single gal has had enough of the games, the BS, and the endless chase. I know what I want most, and it's not true love. It's a bun in the oven, and I'm not afraid to hit up my sex-on-a-stick coworker to do the job. Ryder is gorgeous, witty, and wild - and he's also a notorious commitmentphobe. That makes him the perfect candidate to make a deposit in the bank of me. I won't fall for him, he won't fall for me, and there's no way baby will make three. Right?
