As a former San Francisco detective, he misses more meaningful work, but he hasn’t had the heart for it since his wife’s death five years prior. That is, until a phone call from a distraught mother, an illegal immigrant who can’t go to the police, puts him on the hunt for a missing little girl. By the time he reaches the mother’s small home, she’s missing, too. Not bad and better than I could do but the plot was predictable , the characters 2 dimensional and the phrasing was that of a child. If this is a young adult book then it’s on me for having the wrong expectation but I didn’t see that anywhere

A great premise, great story, and some of the similes are RIDICULOUSLY good, however, there are inconsistencies in the story; no military unit in the world uses tracers in rifles, those are for MG's only, and at no point did it say that Tennor was putting tracers into his mags; also, Tennor didn't know which setting made his rifle automatic?; the three settings you're looking for are single, three round burst and full auto, hearing "full rock and rolla" made me cringe; Scott made it a POINT to call it a sound suppressor but later in the book, with HIS pistol, it's labeled as a "silencer"; but my BIGGEST grief with this story was the rats. They can't get through metal, or climb against non-porous material but NO ONE thinks to use a truck/van to avoid them. I understand they COULD bite through the tires theoretically, but they DAMN sure wouldn't be eating through a car door, which,....makes the rats irrelevant. Also, the main characters seem OP as a boss fight in a Final Fantasy game. Tennor/Fist/Gus/Scott seem naturally gifted at withstanding pain/recovering from injuries; finally, can we have a good story that DOESN'T have to tack-on the love interest? A lot of criticism, but overall, one of the best zombie/post apocalyptic stories I've ever heard. Keep up the good work!

The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the Native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon came ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There went the good old days, when humans got killed only by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.
