In Dad is Fat, stand-up comedian Jim Gaffigan, who’s best known for his legendary riffs on Hot Pockets, bacon, manatees, and McDonald's, expresses all the joys and horrors of life with five young children - everything from cousins ("celebrities for little kids") to toddlers’ communication skills ("they always sound like they have traveled by horseback for hours to deliver important news"), to the eating habits of four-year-olds ("there is no difference between a four-year-old eating a taco and throwing a taco on the floor").

Darrow is a Red, a member of the lowest caste in the color-coded society of the future. Like his fellow Reds, he works all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of Mars livable for future generations. Yet he spends his life willingly, knowing that his blood and sweat will one day result in a better world for his children. But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and sprawling parks spread across the planet.

Merchants, common sailors, captains of vessels, skippers, both of Europe and America, naval officers of all countries, and the governments of several states on the two continents, were deeply interested in the matter.

I tried reading 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea when I was in high school, after seeing the movie, but it was just to full of plant and animal classification.

The audio version is great, because you can speed up or totally skip those parts and concentrate on the story.

Performance could have been better, especially Captain Nemo.

The Appalachian Trail trail stretches from Georgia to Maine and covers some of the most breathtaking terrain in America - majestic mountains, silent forests, sparking lakes. If you’re going to take a hike, it’s probably the place to go. And Bill Bryson is surely the most entertaing guide you’ll find. He introduces us to the history and ecology of the trail and to some of the other hardy (or just foolhardy) folks he meets along the way - and a couple of bears. Already a classic, A Walk in the Woods will make you long for the great outdoors (or at least a comfortable chair to sit and read in).

I love the Red Rising series. Awesome storytelling and the voice actors have been really good. But, this book gets only 3 stars in Performance, because some of the voices have changed from the first three novels and I personally don't think they are as good as the previous ones (but the new characters voices are great). Also, the language has really gone down hill in this addition. What used to be "bloody damn" and "gory hell" have change to the F-bomb! Call me a prude, but I dislike all the heightened cussing in this book, compared to the previous novels in the series. It seems to cheapen the story and the characters.
